Sorry, not a 116, but this 123 has to be seen

I'm sorry for the non 116 topic. I saw this video of an incredible 240d and thought that you guys would appreciate it, too.

Amazing car indeed, but... what's the point of owning a 31km classic built for long distance travel, if all it does is going 5m in and out of the garage so that people can drool over it for a few minutes? :)

I will never understand this.

I dont have speakers on my PC so not sure what the commentary was but jeepers, 31km?!

Over the last 5 years or so, my 6.9 has sat without needing much attention as many of our cars reach a stage (until wear and tear!).  I have been working on a 123 wagen resto, after i grew up in mums 280te in the 1980s.  Its making real progress now.  After an engine rebuild, paint, 15s, lots and lots of classic centre bits, it will soon be at new gahh carpet and leather stage.  A few 123s were sacrificed to get NLA parts for this car.  Its interesting how 123s as 'regular cars', probably command more dollars than 116s now.

A pic of my wagen a month ago after the alloys were put on. And a pic of mums 280te (not the same car sadly) in germany having oris roof racks fit in 1981 when new.  My parents collected this RHD car in Germany, drove it around Europe and then shipped it back to Australia.  It serviced the family until replaced by the 124 300te which we still have.

I think that you have a point, as you can ultimately become a prisoner to a car like this, where you are afraid to drive it. I saw something like this at a show a few weeks ago where this immaculate, low mileage, 123 was on  show. I had taken a photo of it last year, and it had only done 300 miles in 12 months. Rather than hidden in a private garage, this particular 240D should be in the museum in Stuttgart, where thousands of people can appreciate it as a 'new' 123. That's where its value lies.
