Here are a few pics of my new ride. The plates read 798ENZ however it's a 77 anyhow new Vic plates are going on shortly. As for the W126 hubcaps they will also be replaced shortly with bundt rims. At first I wanted to remove the stickers or whatever it is on the doors but I've actually grown to like it that way. Anyways here she is Drove from Queensland back to Melbourne without a hitch! Pretty well looked after car not any rust at all underneath and runs great.

Agreed re the hubcaps and the 2 tone work, very W126 but if she is mech reliable thats the main thing!

Thanks Tony, interior is pretty nice too I'll put some pics up as soon as I'm done cleaning the sheepskin covers. Even though the velour apart from the drivers seat is in pretty decent condition for a 35 year old car I prefer her with the sheepskin on.

Anyway, I like that colour, my second favourite colour after Black.

Yep I saw her on carsales I had my eye on her for a while the owner was asking 10k to begin with which was more than I was willing to spend then the price dropped to 9k then 8k then 7k and that's what I paid for her. It seemed reasonable to me what do you think? I mean yes it's a 35 year old car but she is in pretty sound condition. I had the car checked out by a few mechanics before I bought It I may be a little crazy but not completely nuts!

Crazy?

For my 450SLC I paid equivalent of US$10000 in 2002 and it cost me ~AU$7000 to bring her to Oz in 2008. Last year, after 9 years of costless relationship, I spent $3000 on spare parts (that's equivalent to $15000 at dealers price) to make the less than spotless parts be spotless.
That's more than $20000 of today's money I'll never be able to recover. I guess only worse thing is to spend money on is your pet's psychiatrist.

But she ticked all the boxes and more... made all the bonds a machine can make to a man, and here we are: unseparable.

But wait, there's more!

She was not jealous a bit when I bought the 280SE on ebay out of sheer stupidity.

If you got what you wanted and if it ticks all the boxes, there should be no regrets.
My Commodore VE was priced at $32k's and 3yrs/120t km's later it was worth $13. That's a net loss of $19k's. Gearbox started to give trouble too.
Now, imagine investing further $12k's in your Merc. Can you imagine what would your car be like?
And that's only same money an average new GM car will loose in 3-5 years.

No regrets I've wanted a 450SEL since I was a kid and I couldn't be happier  
Owning and looking after my car is more than passion it's an obsession I love my 450. And I'm so glad I found this forum where there are tons of people who love their w116s just like me truly is an awesome brotherhood this place!

I bought a 450SE sight unseen and drove it from Western Vic (Horsham) to South Eastern Vic at night.

Ended up only being 500 ish km and i enjoyed every moment.

The thing is, you cant be scared.

Very good specimen, Depa, it seems untouched... how many km or miles? I agree to remove the W126 hubcaps: plastic is not related with a full-chrome car like a W116. Great!

Tony the car did 1700ks back to Melbourne and it was pure bliss all smiles. The car has 143000ks on the clock and judging by the condition and smooth ride of the car I'd say they are legitimate.
