My favourite car and colour - man you guys in Oz are lucky!!!
I would have pulled out all stops in trying to get this one - it is just so beautiful!!
And it has a colour coded dash as well... suave.

Oil pressure could have been better though.

Hi Pompy,

What's the colour coded dash?  It looks black to me, as in the top bit, the bottom section I thought was always the interior trim colour?

Oh, oil pressure is fine surely?  It's supposed to be 1.0 bar per 1,000 rpm right, so it has 1.5 bar at 600 rpm, so nealy 3.0 bar at 1,000......almost too much really, but that's another story.

Regards,

Carl.

WGB

The Oz spec cars all had a black dash top but the Euro's had a dash top that matched the trim colour.

I think it looks like a brown dash which is the same colour as my UK 450 (Non 6.9) and the same thing has happened that the sides of the ventre console have "morphed" to a strange dark green colour.

I reckon pompy's right.  It looks all brown to me except the centre console needs recolouring.  I always thought the upper and lower dash was standard black and option was for coloured.  Blue, green or brown are the options thus far.  Haven't seen any others apart from custom jobs.

For a warm engine idle that oil pressure is fine as you point out Carl.

My little nit pic when I frst saw the as was the cluster with a calibrated odo in miles and temp and oel gauge in Celcius and Bar.  I thought that part would've been in Farenheit and the other pressure scale I can't remember what it is.

Carl, I assume you've seen that other Milan Brown one on carsales.  (close your eyes pompy, you'll get even more jealous).  If for nothing else it shows what a complete brown dash and console looks like.  Notice the w126 style steering wheel too.

This is probably THE best 6.9 in the country. The owner used to work for MB in the UK. It is an exceptional car and completely original.

As from 1977 all W116 had velour carpet and loudspeakers on top of the dashboards. Now also cars with green interiors had a green dash and Brown/red interiors had a brown coloured dashboard. (before only Blue dashboards were made except for Black).
All colours are more succeptable for sunlight damage (cracking).

Don't think "loudspeakers on top of the dashboards" is correct.

My '79 has the low position speakers and I doubt is sat around for two years.

Boogity, Boogity, Boogity, Amen!

CraigS

Agree. None of mine has the speakers on top, and mine are 1976 (UK Spec), and 3 x 1979, one of which is Euro spec, delivered in Stuttgart.

OK, so the consensus is that it's a car looking at further.  Thanks for all the replies.

I'm particularly attracted to the fact it's a European specification engine with the higher compression engine and oil cooler.....and it appears not to have done a huge amount of miles.

I guess brown would not be my first choice of exterior colour, but it wouldn't be my last either!

Can anyone tell me if the Australian specification 6.9's can standard with the Klaxon horn option?  Every Australian car I have seen does, but just wanted to confirm.

Thanks and regards,

Carl.

Hi Oscar,

Ohhh man, not "centreconsolegate" again, you know what happened last time I pulled one out of a W116 lol!

But thanks for the note, and yes, I've seen that other car, looks OK, but I want a Euro.

Regards,

Carl.

Not necessarily. I think only 1 of the 2 Australian spec cars of mine has the extra horn option

Both my Aussie cars have the extra horn option.

However the Euro car has not.

What on earth are you thinking Carl? Time to join the 69 club?

Cheers Rob

I think this is true of euro spec LHD cars only.  Both my '76 and '78 LHD euro 6.9's have speakers on top of the dash.  My '80 RHD euro 280SE does not.
