450 exhaust central section

I have just been quoted by Mercedes £390 plus delivery for the central exhaust section that is almost £100 more than when I last enquired. Knew I should have got it then but been putting it off. Any one know of another supplier preferably reasonably local?

As far as aftermarket goes, I think Bosal and Walker both discontinued the 116 exhaust components, but you may be able to find left over NOS on ebay or locally to you.

You may also want to try a local exhaust shop and see if they can fabricate a replacement piece for a reasonable price, but in my experience when they see a classic MB they see dollar signs (many).

Doesn't seem to be much choice for the 450 lots though for the 280. Why would that be? Was it really that much more popular?

That's cheap, relatively speaking! :)

I've paid 2897.86PLN (668EUR / 594GBP) for it last year.
A1164901415 Silencer, Central

The rear cost a whopping 3705.33PLN (855EUR / 760GBP)...

Both prices are from an official MB dealer ("InterCar II" in Poland), with 23% VAT and 15% discount included, delivered.

The only real alternative is going fully custom, ideally with a stainless setup.
There isn't anyone making those silencers for the V8s anymore.

Ouch!
At that price level the choice is clear. Either time valve, or the German chap Theo Sobkowiak (sp?), unless originality is what you're after.

How come it was that price? I thought mine a lot but it was at least an official Mercedes price and I expected to pay more.

It just happened to be the "current list price" at the time. There's no logic to MB pricing :)

I would consider getting one made. I needed a center and rear for my 6.9 last year, the center I got from MB for less than £300, but the rear was NLA and I had a top quality one made for £200 that sounds factory

Yes that would be a good idea although have heard accounts of poor fitting. Would need the old one as a pattern which I took off a little while ago and not thinking chucked it out. Oh well have settled for the Mercedes one which is again on factory back order so it could be a long wait.
