Hi all,
reading posts i smirk at oscars tag, 350se, the other 116....
it reminded me of a statement in merc enthusiast magazine that this guy with  a 350sel (RH drive) had the ONLY one in the UK and only known one...i think this statement is crap.
im sure i looked at one helping a friend buy a 116 a few years back...im also sure i recently saw one on one of the aussie car sites who again said he had the only one (in Oz though)...i then noted an ad on mbspares for a 350sel being wrecked...
can anyone back me up on this and prove there are other RH drive 350sels?

I used to have "the forgotten one".  It was more of a cry for help like that song what about me, it isn't fair.... boohoo because it's near impossible to view internet catalogues or common DIY manual thingys or buy parts online without referring to a different model.  The w116 350 in general aren't catered for very well online mainly due to their absence from the USA market to which the manuals and other online stuff caters to.  It's lucky there are so many crossover parts.

Re the 350sels, I know/knew of two.  I fella called Haggars on the club site has one.

There was also one for sale with a 280se on carpoint ages ago from canberra for around $2k for both. It looks tops in the pics despite trim bits missing here and there.  Notice the spoiler on the rear. Blue and cream, that's just dead sexy!  Given that these cars were up for grabs in Canberra makes me wonder if this sel got scrapped.  They were advertised as a 280se only and were advertised for a few months.  I'm sure I've seen others but no proof sorry. (the pics aren't from the rear of MBSpares are they?)

If you look at the production figures, 350SEL was the least numerous W116 variant, but they were by no means as scarce as people like to think.  Here in South Africa I am only aware of one 350SEL, and that's a LHD, but this isn't surprising since 280S, 280SE and 350SE were the only W116 variants officially sold here.  Our local on-line autotrader page has typically one 350SE RHD for sale every week. 

I actually spotted a 350SE that I considered buying a few weeks back.  Rust free, but no wood, no electric windows.  Orignally sidelined due to brake master cylinder problems, it hadn't been started in about 3 years, and that worried me quite a bit.  THe price was also far too high considering this.
