Input on possible purchase

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum.  Always been in love with 116 chassis.  Thinking about purchasing '80 300 SD with 120k, asking 2900.  What are the weak spots on this car?  In the past I've owned an '83 123 300D - the car was bulletproof.

Start with rust around front upper supension, rocker panels and around rear wheel arch.

It is actually quite similar to 123 except that everything is one size bigger and a bit more complicated. so the same check points apply. Rust, yes . The mechanics is reliable as you know. You are probably aware of the AC servo issues, they tend to crack. Nowadays they have aluminum and electronic replacements though. the exhaust pipe is also quite expensive if going for original quality (which is the way to go).

I agree, the 123 300D is the real bullet proof mercedes. I think the 116 is pretty close to that. pity they dont make cars like these anymore.
