6.9 bundts tyres

Hello,

it is about time to re-start that topic  :) .
Currently I am running original R14 bundts with Cooper Cobra 215 tyres. Not great but enough within the limits and restrictions of swiss motorways.

Since the tyres begin to get uncomfortable after appr. 8 years I am considering to switch to R15 Maxilite barock bundts with 215 or 225 R15 tyres.

Attached / upper is an approval from authority called 'Test Laboratory South', the significance of which I need to find more about. This approval is distributed from Maxilite.

The approval refers to the correct engine power, though it does not particularly list the 6.9.
Furthermore it lists two tyre sizes which seem strange to me. In particular the 225 / 55 R15 is a size for which I am unable to find any tyres.

Attached / lower is a chart from a database called 'tyre sizes',   www.reifen-groessen.de.  It seems more reasonable in the 6.9 case.

I plan to approach the Swiss TÜV / Technical authority guys and check what is possible with them.

My question to you:
What are common tyre sizes on the Maxilite barock 7x15 bundt? Tyre load demand is 96.

Thanks in advance and regards     Bernd

Hello,
I have the Maxilite wheels on my car with 225/60R15 , 225/55 would be to small 60 is nearly the same size as original just 6 mm less diameter.

You can also look at w126 for that one Mercedes also lists 225/60 R15 as a replacment for the R14 tires for all engines.
https://www.w126-wiki.de/images/0/0d/Rad-Reifen-W126.pdf

Officialy Mercedes lists 215/65 R15 as allowed for the w116 6.9.

How do you like the Maxilites? Any issues?

Update for those interested or concerned:

Swiss vehicles with a certain age and status of originality get the so-called Veterans status. This comes with some financial benefits but that is not much and crucial, the reputation of having a Veteran is usually more important.

Ramiro has provided some offical MB statements regarding the approval of bundts like the Maxilite for the 6.9. (Thanks again, also for the informative phone call).

The Swiss Technical authority is unable to approve the bundts under the umbrella of the Veteran status because the MB statement for R15 bundts is not valid in Switzerland simply because MB Suisse did not adopt the statement, for whatever reason. Means that here the Veterans status is possible exclusively with the original R14 bundts.

I can get approval of the R15 bundts but at the expense of loss of the Veterans approval.

The Tech authority guy told me that this is a common problem also with other MB cars.
Here's to the swiss neutrality and independence.

Hopefully this isn't too much of a thread hijack......
The MB tire table is very interesting though unfortunately I can't specifcally comment on the Maxlite.  Anyway, I'm running 235/60-15 Pirelli 600's on 15x7 ET23 Bundt copies.  These now need replacing.  Per the table I ought to be using 215/65-15 on those wheels.  Of interest is that MB allows 225/55-16's but on wider 16" wheel.  That suggests that my 235/60 tires should be on a wider wheel.  Also, I did have fender rub issues a few times by driving over drainages like this. But I'm not getting new wheels.

All this suggests to me that I might be best served by getting 225/60-15's.  I'm not bound by those strict Swiss rules.  Any thoughts?  Sorry it doesn't help much but maybe useful anyway.  The 235/60-15's really did handle and ride very well.  :-)  Thanks and cheers,
-Dave

I have no rubing issues whatsoever with 225/60 R15 and the maxilite wheels.
For handling i have no real comparsion only my other w116 that runs on 205/60 R16 that handles much better but i think it is because it has steel suspension and an alloy 5.0 m117 engine.

I bought 16" Maxilite retro rims with polished rim flange on my 6.9. Rear: 225/ 50/16 8J, front: 205/55/16 7J
Michelin Tyres Primacy 2. with German TÜV!
everything is better than 14 balloons, only small downside: at low traffic speed I have the feeling to notice a bit more bad roads. Probably due to the less rubber and higher air pressure (2,5 front, 2,8 rear).

here an interesting thread we had here in 2022 about 15" and 16".....with pics of mine:
