Volkswagen sunroof grease, has anybody used this as an alternative to the MB?

At around $25 for a 90 gram tube, it seems like a smoking deal compared to Mercedes' price (I was quoted $127.40 by the MB dealer). The real question here is does it have a similar composition to MBs and can it safely be used on the W116 sunroofs?

This thread on TDIClub points to it being a good lubricant for its intended purpose and there is even talk about the MB in there:

I'm willing to try it.

I have used this grease and it's perfect!
Perfect by design...
Perfect price (in comparison)...

Volkswagens Part Number is G00045002

Type17

I always use silicone grease - works very well with sunroofs because, unlike oil-based greases, it doesn't dry out in baking hot conditions of a sunroof tray and turn to a glue-like substance, which actually jams up sunroof mechanisms.

Silicone grease is more expensive than oil-based greases, but way cheaper than the MB & VW sunroof greases (which I suspect may be a type of silicone grease anyway).
