Karo cloth and Vertikalstreifen

Since ribbed anthracite velours may never be available again I've been looking at the other cloth material options. It looks like the earlier models of w116 had ser 1 and ser. 2 with ribbed and karo cloths. Not exactly sure of the years for each fabric before the ser.3 became velours.

Does anyone know if these cloths were used with MB Tex only or if it was also used with leather?


Note: look at the pictures the guy from Egypt just posted, it's a 1978 with karo, so it must of been an option thru all the years.

I'm pretty certain the last car they offered cloth with leather was the W111 low grill coupe` and cabriolet...so 1971.  My interior appointments book only shows vinyl with cloth and regular fabric covered W116 interiors......but none of that is to say you can't use leather with cloth/fabric interiors. ....but the catch is that you'll have to use the more expensive surface dyed leather.  Using the cheaper vat dyed leather will make it look like a patch job on the run.

There are several pages according to the VIN.  But this one is a good example.  Bear in mind that the interior appointments books did not show physical samples of the material.  For that you'd need a sales brochure/pamphlet from a dealership showing the interior color and material options.

Ran across this lovely Japan brochure.  I want the cream-sickle orange car!

Show karo front and rear seats.  This helps me answer few remaining question about seat patterns.  Now finally ready to order seats!  Will be using local shop that is recommended from KHM.

The "black" Karo is actually a mix of black, gray, blue, and a light brown. Looks pretty good next to Anthracite paint.


Karo was probably completely rare on 6.9's, but I have seen a couple of pictures.  I tend to think it was more common on the lesser models. The fabric feels very durable.

My favorite feature of Karo is that when you open the car door the interior will scream "Euro".

On a slightly different note, I just purchased a MB manual on retrofitting heated seats into a 6.9.  Will post in a week or so after I receive it.
