Hi,
have anyone of you visited: http://meinbenz.de/ , its a great site for W116 and others, although its in german, but you can see by clicking the left side menus on:
Farbtabellen: all the paint colors with pics offered during the years for 116 (and other models)
Polsterung : the interior options with pics
Preislisten: the prices when these cars were new (the 6.9 is double price of a 450SE :o)
Sonderausstattung: here you can find pics of the options (including that front seat back strap in one pas topic).
Just if anyone has missed this site, regards
Thanks Tomi, that does look like a good W116 resource and one that I had not come across before.
The other thing about car pricing during the 70's was that in dollar terms the cost would increase each year due to inflation. I don't have the numbers in front of me but the increase was considerable too.
I have to say that 50000 german marks for a 450sel and 80000 for a 6.9 was a huge some of money in -79. This is way out of reach of any middle class employer back then. So enjoy your cars, since someone has put a fortune in it ;D

Another comparison worth making is in Australia here you could buy a nice house in the suburbs in the late 70's for around $30,000 AU, the top of the line local car for 1980 was the GM Holden Statesman Caprice, which sold for $30-31,000, A 6.9 here was over 90,000!
Another comparison......here in Adelaide you could have bought 3 houses in the eastern suburbs (Very nice area $$$$) for 90K now today that would be worth over 2.1Mil possibly 3 Million.
Scary.
Andreas
ps I can translate german if i am not inundated with questions.
