Allow myself to introduce... myself (and my W116)

Hi All,

Just want to introduce you all to my new (to me) W116.  A Brilliant Red 1977 280SE, that I acquired recently from BaT:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-mercedes-benz-280se-7/

Excited to be piloting a W116 these days!  I've owned numerous Benzes from the '60s and '70s (Heckflosses, W108, W114/115s, W123s), but this is my first ever W116.  So impressed by its presence - makes you feel like a head of state when you're behind the wheel (and likely even more so when you're riding in the back...).

Hoping to cross paths with other W116 caretakers here in the Bay Area!

Welcome to the asylum!  Looks like you got a great car.  The history and context are terrific, something my car totally lacks.  Cheers,

Congrats on the red 280SE.  You need to do the Euro conversion on the headlights and bumpers and just enjoy her with all her beautiful flaws.

Welcome also from my side of the ocean.

I think it's a particularly nice and rare color combo and great options: leather, automatic climate control, reading lamps in the back and power windows are rare on 280s.

If the re-paining has been done in the 90s and there is none or only little rust today, the body appears to be very good.
Too bad that that leather shows notable wear.

Thanks All!  Totally agree on the Euro conversion with the bumpers and lights - one day... I've been wanting to do that for years on my BMW E12 as well, but no dice finding parts.

My dream stable would include a euro 280sl R107, 220s pontoon, andenhauer, and a 170V.

Great looking car Lazy, congrats.  I had to add my cars to my profile.  Funny how people tend to like similar cars.  My 968 coupe is listed in the classified area of Rennlist, it has even lighter colored seats than your SE.  Porsche called it light gray, but it's nearly white.

That seats color subject reminded me of this old image.

Florida man changed leather color to snow white

Similar taste for sure is always a bit remarkable, but looking at your two stables... the similarities have blown me away LOL! Amazing that you both have 6.9s AND AMG GTS's???

Totally!  I've noticed that too about people's car tastes (and sometimes car tastes are even predictive of taste in music I've found!) - in my line of work we would call this "linkage disequilibrium"...

I love 968's!  So far I've only owned 911's but one of these days I hope to get my hands on one.
