ONE more time! (purchasing 500SE (I hope))

OK - the 82 Lorinser is still available, but due to my Mother having a health crisis I never drove the 110 miles to buy it.

BUT!

I really resented the 2.8 engine, although as a 1st year Lorinser I couldn't turn it down for $3800.

Today I found a 1984 500SE AMG (euro) 119,000 miles, VERY clean, enthusiast owned/maintained etc etc etc....

BBS wheels (original)
AMG/Lorinser exhaust (original)

Engine Mods
AMG springs

Heated seats
Adjustable headlights

Rear headrests

The ONLY thing federalized was the speedometer - somebody was connected and when it passed CARB they got a title.

;D

Now I just hope I don't get spastic or have a crisis - this is THE ONE.

That is a much better animal than the white one. It looks alot more honest, and well...it's a V8, it would fit in with the rest of the stable much nicer (and it kinda has the same colour as Max)

Animal is the word.  The 500 euro engine is iconic and to my mind the first modern computer controlled high performance V8 in mass production.  It makes the 4.5 look like a truck engine.  With full AMG mods I think the 2valve engines could exceed 300HP in euro trim - anyone know?

It must have a special axle ratio, (he claims 4:11?) as it will smoke the tires (TWO stripes/definitely limited slip) from a standing start without putting it in 1st gear, and he says in 1st it is almost uncontrollable if you punch it.  I suppose in 55MPH 1984 America it would be possible...  as the car was only in Europe a few months after pickup by the California Doctor who was the first owner.  Autobahn gearing was a joke in the 1980s for USA cars.

$5000 is the price I offered (but negotiable depending on shipping costs 1400 miles), but with a cherry leather interior and AMG and original paint, I couldn't resist offering a fair price - he made ME price it...  I wonder if he'd have taken $3500...(heh)  but no, I'll call it a "keeper" and assume it is a value even if sometimes they come up for peanuts.

His ad does say "street legal race car"....  whooooof.  Could be a real winner.
