I think I've shared this video of mine on the forum before, but here's what it sounds when the hinges are well greased, striker adjusted, with seals in good order:

Hi, I'm looking for the control rod between the throttle linkage and transmission. Must be for engine M110. The local plating shop lost mine. Part number is 1100701275. Please let me know if you have one, thank you!

Hello,

I guess that the sound primarily depends upon the correct adjustment of the aluminum pieces on the body which hold the stems in the door lock, and the quality of the door seals. Provided the basic door adjustment is ok.
Finding the right adjustment of the alu holders is tricky.

Nice! I did the same last weekend, pulled it out of its winter slumber, repaired a few things and then drove it almost 400 miles. Unfortunately mine has quite a bit on the to-do list.

Yes!  And for the first time ever, there are no niggling projects to distract me except for replacing a few chrome pieces.  And they aren't even bad to begin with, but will now be perfect thanks to Stan's astounding parts sale.   ;D

The W116 does NOT lack the bank-door thunk you're talking about.  Something on that car was wrong.  There are several possible adjustments and, as with all things w116-related, they all need to be right.  Do search here, this has been discussed.  Cheers,
