Title: WA 116 gathering sunday 9th december
Post by: nathan on 31 October 2012, 01:48 AM
hi guys,
ive sent an email to those i have the email for but wondered whether a meeting on sunday 9th december might be in order? i know John kindly offered a visit up to his place in York previously. selfishly i would have trouble getting a whole day free so thought a gathering startring around 9-10am and including a drive, with a conclusion of lunch at a local restaurant. exact plans would follow but id be interested in rough numbers.all 116s welcome, forum members, club members, hobos who sleep in 116s - all welcome. if the date gets set, ill ask the local merc club to email those interested.
regards
nathan

I'll attend in a 116 of some description. My 280S needs a radiator refurb ASAP, so probably the 6.9.

Awesome,

Thanks Goldacre. I'm hoping we'll have a good turnout this time.

As far as I know, the MBCCWA meet wasn't popular, at least I don't think any of us went. I was off the mainland too.

I went, fairly good turnout but down on last years numbers apparently. Rejoined the club, maybe I"ll get more function, maybe I won"t.

The 9th of December is my wedding anniversary, don't feel like loose another nut but I'll be there is spirit.

Regards,

Giles

hi guys, you will find a brief video of the day on the facebook page of "Mercedes Benz car club of western australia", strangely under nathan! the video wasnt up to my usual standards so i wont add it to my youtube account.
the weather was great. location was actually very nice. but a bit small. sadly, aside from SLs, there seems to be little interest in anything older than a 126. one 116, one 108, one ponton and so on.

David G (Merc WA Club)

i will PM other forum members including WGB, Philpot, Split, plmstr92. any other wa'ers i may have forgotten? i think ryan1980 sold his car.
i dont wish to disturb WGB, but im not sure if anyone else has details on ChrisP who has a 6.9 and came on our last one?
TJ, do you remember a red 116 with plates MH31908. it was a hubcapped regular 116 and i cant remember who the bloke was!
i sms'ed 5 other 6.9 owners and will see if they reply. ive emailed Walter H too for any contact details.
hell, if i see a 116 in the next few weeks im gonna pull over and ask them.
i think it would be a pretty cool effort to try and get a dozen plus cars?!!

Tim, both 116s. you can do the splits driving them. i was gonna bring 4 but couldnt figure out how to manage 4 cruise controls with only 2 arms and 2 legs.
i have now smsed the 5 other 6.9 owners i had mobiles for.  interestigngly, there are 4 6.9 owners in WA called David!

excellent news John. TJ is likely to have his two cars present, if you have your two present, ill maybe get another driver so i have two of our 4 registered 116s present (the two silver 6.9s).  i keep updating my post on page 1 of this thread as people inform me. havent heard back from 4-5 of previous forum members though, so not sure.  the merc club VP will kindly email their members so hopefully we can muster a few of them too.
id love to break the double figures here, it would a pretty reasonable effort though.  the first meeting we had had 6 6.9s from memory which wasnt bad at all.

Hi Guys,
confirming the date of sunday december 9. i have received an email from the former head of service at Diesel Motors.  He has kindly offered to meet and show us the new Mercedes paint facility.  I have yet to confirm the driving route, but my expectations woudl be to meet at the paint facility at 0900, and after a tour of the facility, we will drive on and ultimately have lunch.  i will get more details following confirmation of this plan

The recon radiator is going in my 280S this weekend, so I'll be rocking and rolling by the time this event is upon us. I might get a quote for a paint job whilst we're there LOL (for when I win Lotto).

Hi oversize, yep it's the Tiger that is located at Bovington tank museum in south England. By a stroke of good fortune we were there during the 'All American Armour day' and what a day it was, heaps of things to see and do. The tank museum had just finished restoring the tank and Saturday morning was the first full test drive, I remember it well, about 10am the the crowd stood stunned as this incredible noise came from behind a big shed near the maintenance yard, some people like a chorus said ' that's the Tiger they got it started' and seriously the whole crowd bolted to the scene, we were there first and it was impressive to say the least. It trundled past us within a few meters and the noise was incredible, if any one goes to the UK check the Bovington museum out, incredible place, there is one in France as well in Sanur and that actually has an operational King Tiger (check on UTube, they'd have it trundling down a road in Brest during VE celebrations, now that thing is HUGE (yep, went to that museum as well) now, if you hop onto Pitstop bookshop you can buy the 'how to buy, maintain and rebuild' the Tiger tank based on the years of research Bovington went through, yep , got that on my coffee table, makes for cool conversation :) will bring along next week.7

Title: FINAL PLAN SUNDAY DECEMBER 9
Post by: nathan on 04 December 2012, 11:00 AM
Gentleman,
excuse my tardiness on the final plan. as we all are, ive been hectic. the plan is as follows

0900 i will be departing from my dads house (6.9s kept there) in Subiaco.  Those in the western suburbs are welcome to depart from here with me or just
meet at the paint shop (below) at 0930.
0930 meet at WPAutobody. 2 Purser Loop Bassendean WA
Mr Jason Mooney will show us WAs newest Mercedes authorised paint shop and its facilities. i imagine this may be for anywhere from 1/2 hr to an hr pending
how many questions TJ can come up with.
1030 depart Bassendean.  Head north via Tonkin Highway, West onto Morley Drive and ultimately Karrinyup Road.
11ish  Just prior to Kwinana freeway entry, stop and regroup at Stirling Civic Gardens.  Then depart as a reunited group (the lights on Morley drive would likely
separate us!) onto Kwinana freeway.  Drive in convoy and get off at Vincent Street. Turn left onto Vincent and then right onto Oxford Street
1130ish Gather in carpark at southern end of Oxford Street (junction Leederville Parade).  Large carpark should permit the obligatory 'group park'!
Coffee or early lunch on Oxford street.

the things i now need off you (please all email me on my PM or email link)
1)are you attending
2)mobile telephone number, so i can ring you if you get lost (i will reply to your email with my phone number)
3)where you plan to meet, at my fathers house in Subiaco (please email for address) or at the paint shop
4)would you prefer to just randomly select meal/coffee place on Oxford street Leederville or would you prefer to book something?

I apologise if some perceive the route as a bit mundane but it has a few advantages including a final destination close to the freeway which will be good for many of our colleagues who are centrally based.

At this time, i have personally invited another two owners (i just found one in my neighbourhood today!!).  Both Motec and ChrisP will be carless and looking for a ride.  Motec seems to already be sorted. im happy to chaufeur (damn the spelling) when we have met up but would only be leaving for western suburbs on conclusion.

I will forward this as a private email to those i already know of but please PM me the answers to the above questions.
regards
nathan

thanks WGB,
at present
meeting at my fathers place is John6007 and his father (2 cars?), Goldacre, TJ450
meeting at the paint shop will be WGB (with Chris P and Motec), David G (and wife), HiHo (and Ash), Dellboy, Major Tom

i found a neighbour whose dad has a 280. whilst not free on sunday he is up for future events and i got his details.  i also spoke to the son of the guy selling the brown 6.9 the other day. he was a nice talkative fellow and said he would pass on details to his dad but havent heard back.
Chris V (red 6.9) is overseas and only returns sunday morning.

anyhow, we might crack the mystical 10 car barrier. if you know anyone else, let them know!!

Tops, exhausted all my leads to get a W116 and even a couple of W126s to come along  :'(

I will be there at Nathans dads place but be warned/prepared as i am taking mum back home to the wheatbelt with me Sunday so the car will have three dogs and mum in it which should be interesting to say the least  :-X

Yep Nathan, the hubcaps are still shiny steel (more so when i get the Brasso onto them) will ask paint man to make me a deal i cannot refuse  ;D

Yep, two 116's with my Dad driving #6466, so he has the job of making it look nice. (In the 70's he did buy new two (white) 280SE's, I wonder if they are still alive).

This week I had #5628 on the hoist for a oil change and filter, although the 'old' oil was still looking fresh. Fortunately it looks pretty clean and straight underneath. I had a few window switch gremlins but now all sorted and ready for Sunday. Ten 116's would be nice.

all right guys,
sorry i didnt get round to sending a group SMS later today, was hectic as usual.
absolute disaster today with one of the 116s. thinking id tidy 3 of them up before tomorrows meeting, i got my brothers (was dads) 280sel off him and cleaned it. even clay barred the central panels. the battery was flat as my brother rarely drives it so i had it idling on the driveway and i thought id swap it into the garage with another car. reversing out the 124 wagen i forgot id left the drivers door open on the 280. absolutely screwed it. oh the irony of having arranged a visit to a panel shop.
anyhow, the next post will probably be pics of the day. i suggest we start another thread for pics so they are on page 1 and not several pages into a posting??

WoW!

What a happy looking bunch of people, although MT looks like he is up to no good lol

Thats probably one of the biggest assemblies of W116's since the last M100 Run no?

Please tell me someone arranged the cars in a crescent shape and took piccies?

Surely there were more than 11 there?

Excellent turnout. if not for my cockup with my brothers 280sel, dad probably wouldn't have come.  but the pressure of John6007s dad won over and dad finally attended an event, his first merc event ever i think despite having owned them since the 70s!!!
great pics Bill, very good. the only scary thought was if ChrisP took them or you did whilst driving!
i will work on the GoPro video over the next week or so, its my first venture with these so who know-how long it will take.
was great to meet many faces i hadn't before, as well as reacquaint some others.
now the bar is set for 15 cars next time.
please keep the pics coming guys

I have to say I got all warm and oogy reading this thread with the great pics posted, something about an Automotive brotherhood (Or any real brotherhood) that reaffirms my faith in humanity.

So much for a new thread!  LOL!  WOW guys that's just awesome!  Yes Tony now I just have to work out how to link them all together in a 6.9 road train!  Sounds awfully similar to something naughty!  LMAO!  My bad!   ;)

Do I spy a W116 with Ford 12 slotters?  I thought Fords had a completely different stud pattern??

And yes Geoff this all makes one insanely frustrated!!!   ;) ;D

One small comment, nothing huge but a pet hate that drives me Mental..........

Smeared and dirty autoglass, Please please please clean it.

Please?

It makes me twitchy, looks yuck and if you have green UV glass it really looks great when clean.

Tony,

If you're referring to the 280S, that was beyond my control. It was at MT's house parked out in a storm and he drove it straight to the event. It was clean when I dropped it off. 8)

What a day it was  8) great to catch up again with the 116ers and give the old girl a good run. Looks pretty good that my hubcaps will get the paint treatment as the stencils are available to assist with the color coding so rest assured Nathan, your prayers will be answered  :) as soon as i can get the car down for a paint match and drop off the caps so don't hold your breath  ::)

Wishing everyone a merry festive season and a safe one as well (a given if in a S Class)  ::)

finally gents,
the video from the weekend is done
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8epnX5GVnc
bit long yeah, but its about 116s so what you going to do. and no complaining about the music MT, 7 minutes of silence is irritating!
if anyone can embed the whole video rather than the line above that would be great?

Music was good although Id like to have heard Fleetwood Mac's Tusk.....

Too long? Nah and I availed myself of your excellent 6.9 video as well although I feel it needs a drift segment or some skids on the grass.

Looks like the GoPro's were a success! although perhaps not quite such a wide angle lense and all in all a great effort Nathan and my thanks to you for the time and effort put into the production.

I also had a peek at the 2008 gathering which looked like a lot of fun as well, makes you wonder where a lot of those cars are now though.

Love your work!

Tony

LOL I should just have shut up shouldn't I?

I dont know who's car it was but it was from memory a Gold 116 and in hindsight it looks like it is a project car but the rear window jumped out at me lol

Im not at the point where I form a clean window hit squad armed with window cleaner and suitable paraphernalia but I feel it lifts the look of a well used car to have clean glass all round *Twitch* *Mutter* *Twitch* :-)

Excellent pics and video chaps, I'd say you have set the benchmark now, looks like a fun day was had by all.

What's up with MT lately, has he taken a vow of silence, or is he transmitting at a frequency my computer can't pick up?

Yep,

Great work Nathan, and I like the choice of music. Well done.

MT's busy with his Commodore these days. 8)

Certainly Tony, Tusk is a great track, too many possibilities, LOL. Makes me want to listen to Fleetwood Mac now, and I will haha.
