I turned 40 this year, I can't explain why but I suddenly felt old  :(. I'm getting over that feeeling but once in a while I look in the mirror and think,"Where has all this grey hair come from!" On the other hand, Lady Genevieve turned 36 this year, her build date is 12/11/1975 and she still looks fresh!

my hair is 50% gray, I'm going to dye it when i go over east at christmas  8)

Best leave it the way it is....ladies say it's charming! I used to work with a man who would go from silvery grey to jet black overnight, it was a bit disturbing to see!

I used to have a 73 280SE serial number 15172. Never seen a 72 car. Would like to have one in the UK as there £210 less tax to pay per annum between 72 and 73.

MT,

Since you and TJ are now certified painters... don't forget to use the right grade aircraft paint stripper to remove the original paint on your hair and make sure it is repainted using Glasurit paint in the original factory color!!! Clear coat is  optional.... Hehehehe.... just couldn't resist....

Tks,

Joe

Ive never seen a 72 w116 before, they all seem to look like a w109, guessing production started late in the year. Always thought major tom was someone old enough to use a walking frame! when i turned 30 last year the receding hair line was shaved off for good!!!!! i feel 20 now you should try it.  But ever since im always getting pulled over by the cops. they even stare at me in the bakery.

Mine's a youngster  8)  12/79... I wonder when the last one rolled off the line?

Delo 400 15W40 with a couple thousand miles of diesel soot makes great hair dye.

And hand dye.

And head dye...

There's definitely a couple of 72 builds on the forum but can't remember who.

When's the official b'day, sept? Would be nice to maybe do a commemorative badge. I quite liked stork's tribute badge but afaik noone's heard from him for ages now.

A few GTGs around the globe would be good to.  No regional GTGs, one per country, eg, All aussies to meet in the middle, GTG at Ayers Rock  ;D

When I look in the Internet search database for wrecking parts here in Sweden, the w116 series is from '73-'80?? Maybe the w116 was presented to the public in '72 but actual serial production (or delivery) did not start until 1973?

EDIT: ...or the w116 was not delivered in Sweden until 1973, that also a possibility of course...

Years ago I parted out an early '74 280S.  It had the horizontal line machined into the dash zebrano as seen only on the earliest cars.  My daily driver 280SE is a May/June 1980 build making it one of the last.

Yes!, we (the MBCV) have made the W116 the feature car for this year's Concours d' Elegance which is on 29th April.

As usual its part of the RACV classic showcase: http://www.aomc.asn.au/B&Eshow12.htm (http://www.aomc.asn.au/B&Eshow12.htm)

And some 1/4 of the total enourmous area is allocated to Mercedes-Benz (same as every other year for those who have been to the Concours before).

Carl (S-Class register capt. and all-round top-bloke) has requested all W116s in Victoria to attend.  Ideally we want a sea of W116s there, as far as the eye can see.  Good ones, tired ones, modified ones, concourse ones, bring them all along, we will make room.

MBCV also has coffee/tea/pikelets at 9:30am or 10am (or thereabouts) so we could call it an impromptu W116.org get-together if we can get enough of us there so all the usual suspects are requested mandatory participation (that mean you Koan, Tony, RobertD, etc.)  :)

I'll follow this post up with a reminder about a week out from the Concours but just letting anyone on this forum in Victoria know, this is compulsory attendence.

Cheers,

Ian.

Nice one mav.

Would love to make it down for the event, however won't be in a 116.  But will try and get down there.  I actually think I have a 40th Birthday party in Geelong to attend to within a week of that (maybe even same weekend).....so could be a goer.

Would be good for a catchup beer too. ;)

My 116 is '76.  The earliest one I have seen is a '73.

It will be interesting to see how many come out into shows next year.  I had mine in Canberra's main show last weekend.  There were over 1000 cars of all makes and ages.  Only about 35 Mercedes and of them there were two of us with 116, mine (450SE) and a 6.9.

I think the official start date is September 72. That would mean that from order to delivery would put all UK cars in 73. Mine is April 74 which is particularly annoying as the previous year is exempt from Road Tax.

Last year at our MBCV Concours we had I think 10 W116s all lined up in the show-n-shine section and 1 W116 entered in the Concours.  You'll all be pleased to know that was Carl's white 280SE and it won the overall Concours competition.

So its fair to say at the MBCV we take our W116s very seriously indeed.

This photo below shows it best... I took this one when the first two W116s arrived (mine and (?) )... we want to attempt to fill that whole area behind them with W116s, and for this we need 50-100 cars:

Yeah, as 13B said, bring your W116 on the 29th.  No need to be a MBCV member, you don't need to have a concour car, it matters not, JUST BRING YOUR W116.  Thank you!

Ok so what/which is the entry fee?

29th is a bit close though, I may or may not have club reg by then but its probably worth the 350 km round trip!

It's this coming Sunday!  See you there!!!

Just in case:

Flemington Race Course, from 9am
$15 gets you in (I think, same as last year)
MBCV has a dedicated area, no need to be a club member, just show.
We need your W116.

Thanks, Carl

Hi Koan,

Sorry to hear, don't worry, we'll get lots of pics.  Wishing your family good health and a speedy recovery.

I'll be there from 9:00am.  I haven't entered anything in the concour, having a year off, just going to take a chair and sit amonst the W116 for most of the day!

Regards,

CJ.

Hi Ken,

Not really, now the W116 won the thing, it's not eligable any more, and i'm way too lazy to enter the 126, maybe next year.

Old number on hold so a few ex girlfriends can't hassle me, interim one, 0431 618 281 :)

Speak soon,

CJ.

Thanks to everyone who turned up, beautiful day!  Would have been nice to have had a few more cars, but we certainly had the most interesting colours, wonderful!

Good to see Ian M, Robert D and Judy and Ben.  James Trevillions 6.9 won the show and shine section for the S-Class section, great!

And what a beautiful day it was. It was my 1st visit and without doubt, I'll be back next time round.
Noticed quite a number of 116's parked around the perimeter. There were quite a decent number there, just not in the one spot!
Oh and by the way......I drove the "orange" one in the photo. (English Red is the actual colour name).

Great looking cars there, just joined the forum recently. Looking to get my first mercedes, found a great looking W116 280s 1 owner 140000km on the clock. Always admired the old mercedes just couldn't decide
which to settle on. Going to be quite an upgrade from a beetle. ;D
