The local classic and vintage car club held one of their regular meetings this weekend, and invited other clubs such as the MB club of South Africa to participate.  Some pics below.  I met Grant V there and one of our newest W116.org members, Bronzy935.  It was good to meet you!.  Bronzy is a UK based 6.9 owner, who is frequently out in South Africa on business.

Here's some pics :

Nice! :)

I see a certain red W116 there. ;)

One of the very few there it seems, if not the only.

It was the only 116.  Probably 75% of the people had no idea what it was, and the model descripton on the placard we had to display on the dashboard meant nothing to them either.  The other 25% had reactions that ranged from disbelief to great enthusiasm.  Later in the day, the club chairman moved me up to the main arena with the SL's so that I could have one of the central positions.  Cool.

You should have left the bonnet up ! That would have kept them amused for hours.

Hi s class ,

I was there briefly as well , saw your red beauty in the flesh - with the w116.org badge on the grill - photo's do not do it justice!!
a Real gem and it did stand out against all the 107's in the main arena .  8) I was just disappointed to see that it was the only 116- a lone survivor in a sea of pontoons ,107,s , 108's, and even a few 126 models. What is happening to all the local 116 models ?  :'( Are they not good enough for the club meetings or what ??

zabenz, you shold have introduced yourself!.

116's are generally overlooked by the local MB enthusiasts here.  But fear not, the passion for them is alive and well at my place!.  I am considering starting a W116 register within the club, but I'm not sure I have the time to do it justice.

Thanks styria, it does feel a bit unreal to actually drive one of these beasts.  I'm really looking forward to when the red car's timing chain and air slide issues are sorted out - so that I an enjoy the full 6.9 experience.
