Hi Guys,
I spent the day at "Jeff's shed" checked out the latest offerings from around the Globe.
I was disappointed to see there wasn't a Mercedes Benz display this year.
However the highlight for me was the classic car auction held at the Trade Center at 14.30
In particular a 1979 thistle green 450SEL 6.9 once belonging to Ex premier Jeff Kennett.
The advertised price range stated $18,000 to $24,000 it was passed in @ $28,000? Beats me!

This has inspired me to get on and finally get started with my 6.9 projects
1. The Gold Euro 1977 6.9 will be kept as the weekend warrior
Custom sports exhaust, 16" AMG Alloys and brake upgrade.

2. The Blue  1979 6.9 will start down the road of a full and thorough restoration with the
view to enter it in next year concourse at Flemington
Regards
Robert

That's true - he did pay $5,000 for it, but he completely stripped it, had it repainted, and cleaned it up. Probably wouldn't have been too much profit on it even at $28,000

wasn't that good a job, the paint had runs and you could still see some chips under the new paint
the car looked generally in good shape, however the front suspension was completely down. the rear screen was dilaminating and some internal trim had been put back incorrectly. What interested me was the low kms and the ownership history.

I was prepared to bid up to a sensible level, but didn't get the chance.

How has he the time?  It seems like he only bought it the other week.  Ok so it's been longer but geez that sounds like a lot of work in a short space of time.

Out of curiosity how do you know Carl?

Michel, It's like this.  The quoted price by Shannon's was 18 to 24K.  The auctioneers don't print an upper expected selling range below the reserve.   So the car get's bid to 28K, which means the seller has to come up with $31,080 + stamp duty to drive it away.  Do we really belive that the seller would not have accepted 28K if the bid was genuine?  Auction prices in the past has always treated 6.9's harshly (Except for the Reg Hunt car a few years back) so my predition was that it's a dummy bid.  If not, the seller needs to be certified insane.

Regards,

Carl.
