New forum 116er signing in. Thanks for the email Nathan.
I am happy to say that replacing the window up/down switch took only 30 minutes  :), so i can drive to South Perth with the rear window in the up position  8). Appears that the previous owner spilled a drink on the consol leaving a sticky brown residue at the bottom of the switch rendering it useless  :(.

These emoticons are fun!

Me thinks you don't drive often enough, I see them regularly. It would seem that there are less of the old bangers on the road but the good ones are still being used occasionally. By regularly, i mean i see them at least a couple times a week.

I think i have only ever seen 2 of the previous generation S class, and both of those were 3.5 litres. I'm still yet to ever see a 300SEL 6.3 in person. I have seen a 600 driving around in West Perth, once. If it was going to be anywhere its going to be there, with subiaco next door and all the gold digging hoes cat fighting each other to grab the attention of the Armani suit wearing Ferrari & lambo drivers.  ;D

116's are still common in car loving Kalamunda and two of them often park outside the window of my Surgery in Kalamunda which allays some of the misery that I see in the job at times.

The last 6.3 I saw was the ex-Donovan one at the M-B centre in Weybridge Surrey UK last year.

Historically a lot of car people have lived in Kalamunda/Lesmurdie/Gooseberry Hill due to the fact that it's fun to drive a nice car up a hill and for a long while the minimum Block size was 1/2 an acre so it was easy to have a decent sized shed.

My wife keeps telling me that a 1/2 acre is big enough for us but I haven't risen to the bait yet.

back when i was about 10 my parents used to take me up to a friends property in kalamunda. It was in a previous life an orange orchard, with a stream running through it and an old house at the top of the property. Back then this could of been purchased for a rediculously low price in comparison to today, but everyone thought he was nuts. I wish my parents did the same as him and bought up there, that property was astonishing, and the shed, *oh my god* the shed. Kalamunda big propertys are but a dream for a youngin of today.

nathan

true statement Bill.
ive looked at a few cars over the years...a 6.9 owner was in goosebury, the guy with the 500ge is in lesmurdie, and another guy with a 560sel and very nice 560sec and 450slc in kalamunda as well....every time you drive down those hills and look at the city or whatever it is you like to look at, its very very impressive.  I have to disagree with your boss Bill, i think you need more space, more shed and more cars!!
see you tomorrow.
ps if you see any of those 116ers today, ask them along!

I spotted a 116 of some description sitting on the side of the Mitchel Fwy last night and a Silbergrun SEL with   painted wheel trims going across the Causeway at 11pm last night. I spotted that stretched 280SE (Some kind of Painter's vehicle) in Murdoch a few weeks ago and several bangers with sagging suspension around O'Connor. There are a lot still on the roads around here. See you guys tomorrow !

TJ,
i saw the very same 116 with the old guy behind the wheel iin front of me again today as i drove to the inlaws...i also saw the 116 busted down on the mitchell just before karrinypu i think...someone had already done the boot, or at least tried (i remember how frickin hard these things were!)...
Tim, do you want to roll in convoy to the convoy tomorrow? is so, send us an sms or give us a buzz
regards
nathan

how dare someone leave a 116 on the side of the road. I bet all its windows have been smashed by now, with every panel kicked in. I guess the owner wasn't really an enthusiast. A sad, sad day indeed.

nathan

PB, i know you will disapprove of my methods...on the way back from the in laws, i stopped and looked at the 280se last night...windows intact - no hubcaps though...morons had tried to lever the boot (they learnt the hardway these boots are like vaults)...drivers door was open, no documents in the glovebox so nobody to contact.  looked quite straight (in the dark)....what happens to stolen cars like this after they have been reported and finally collected?

Abandoned cars are collected and auctioned off once in a while by the local council. Unfortunately, usually by the time they have been collected they are usually totally trashed. Once collected by the council the original owner has no say what so ever in what happens to the car, it is legally yours if you win the auction.

PS, i wouldnt be touching or going near a stolen car at all. What gave you the impression it was stollen, it may of just broken down
