Hi guys,
So we had our w116 meeting today, here in normally sunny Western Australia. This was put together in about 6 weeks and was not affiliated with any group, just 116 nuts like everyone else here. Sadly the weather looked like it was going to wash us out with thunder and lightning last night - which led to 4 early retirements before the day even started! However, the count this morning 17 x 116s! not bad for our little city of Perth. I think it was 6 x 6.9s.
we met in Kings Park, drove down to the Fremantle Maritime museum for a coffee and then drove up to Floreat for lunch. A good day for all and attached are some pictures. A video will be forthcoming at some point. If anyone else has any pics (TJ, Goldacre...), please add them!
AND THIS IS THE VIDEO FOOTAGE IVE JUST ADDED

Fantastic to see. Gotta be the biggest 116 event anywhere for some time. And all the cars move under their own steam on real roads!
I wish there was a similar fellowship here in Sydney. I don't know of another forum member in this city.
Cheers Beagle,
I agree, must be some sort of recent record outside of Germany. It only takes one person to organise. keep tabs on a few local ones, drop a note, ask at the local MB service centre of 116 owners and go from there including the MB club. There are some Sydney siders you might find on ozbenz. no doubt you could do better than this with some planning, but WA is up for the challenge.
Best story was (respectfully) old Peter who bought that blue 450 he hadnt driven in 10 years! he had it serviced this week when i emailed him and got it going. what a legend!
Thanks for organising this, Nathan. A great day and a fantastic achievement getting so many 116s together in one place at one time!
Cheers Nathan,
It was a fantastic day for sure, and thankfully the weather was in our favour. It's great to see so many 116s, particularly when you don't often see them on the road these days.
Unfortunately I didn't bring my camera, so no exciting pics from me other than some terrible ones on my phone.
The story of that blue 450 was a great one indeed. 8)
If only it were possible to drive more than one car at once!
Tim
What a great sight. Spot on gents!
Proper. Any diesels running around?
Well done! I'd like to see the video.
Wow, that is quite a sight. I could only dream of seeing that many W116 together.
Great photos gents and a proud day for the 116.
Cheers guys. Harv, remember the 300SD was North America only. Never came to Australia. we had 280s, 450s and 6.9s. some nice low km ons too. no 350s though

Indeed. Just curious is anyone imported them down there. There are a few in Germany. They have the different Turbodiesel badging.

Awesome Day Nathan, thanks again for arranging it! Young Julian and I look forward to attending next time in my own car....!
ha, Chris, you will have 4 cars if Julian gets his way!
Harv, I didn't look too close at the add but the badges on those 300sds look like the old STT turbo badges, not the factory ones which were the same as on the 300TD wagens (123s).
it would be a strange man to import a 300sd left hand drive car to right hand drive Australia!
Fascinating collection, and all mobile. It's as if some dictator from the 70s dropped by for a state visit ;)
A great gathering of heavy metal, thanks for sharing guys.
Cheers.
Holy crap thats an impressive turnout!!!! Wonder what would happen if one was organised in tasmania
