hi guys,
i went to the melbourne event today at flemington race course. great day with nice weather.  my dad was over from perth so i went down with dad and my son, in the 300te dad bought new in 1990 (drove over the nullabor, video a work in progress).
very good turnout and many more cars than in meetings held in my native western australia. broad range of cars.  one rusty 6.9. some nice 450s.  otherwise very low km cars quite common.  got to meet up with Robert D and his lovely wife again which was nice. he was judging the concours! didn't get to see Carl though?

It's all good.  The cost of full rego in Vic (nearly $700/yr) means that as much as I loved those VMB 690 plates the club rego won out ($67 / yr for 45 days).  The BFG white lettering Radial T/As should have given it away as mine :-)

It was a funny day, I was there for about 3 hours, no one hardly said a word then I was ambushed by people wanting things and then my day was over.

Good to hear you had a good time at our Concours - the right way to run a Concours.

It was a fabulous day, the showers held off, over 200 Mercedes-Benzes which I think was a record.  Gratifying to see were the number of W116s present, though none entered in the concour, just the display/show and shine.  I was not able to bring mine this year so brought the W126 280 SE instead.  Only one 6.9 that I saw, being IanB, and no 6.3s at all.  Funny to see 4 X 600 M100s, two Pullmans and two short wheel bases, all blue.

Did anyone happen to spy the stellar 1974 white/tan 280 S with 42,000kms on it?  Some pics below.  I spoke to the owner, his dad bought it new in 1974.  Nice to chat to Ian (13B), Robert (robertd) and I spied James from a distance but didn't have a chance to say "Hi" but I noticed he brought three cars, his W140, the two W116s, a yellow 280 SE and the brown 350 SE as pictured.  And Nathan, how did I miss you?  I spoke to Rob, he's asked us to dinner one night, lets speak about that.  Some W116 pics from the day:

And not one of you lousy so-n-so's told us it was on!!!!  Dammit!  Would loved to've been there, but I was working.  If I knew a while before hand I would've requested the day off!

BTW I'm loving those tyres with the white writing Ian!  Very 70s and they suit the 6.9 muscle well!  Where did you get em?

Arrggghhhhhh, it's on the same time every year, and been plastered across every Victorian car forum for weeks (Except perhaps, this one!)

I seriously thought everyone here would have known about it, sorry!
