Nathan,

The schedule is going to be a bit tight to get you back to Melbourne by 6pm from Roberts.  If we had lunch in Melbourne (For those that couldn't come to Roberts for example) it would only give us two hours or so at Roberts as he's about 90 minutes each way from the city and doesn't finish work till about 4pm on the Saturday.

need to know time and place. can bring the taxi - all that's left now. no-one's seen it yet, not even chris. same as carl's 280SE but yellow/black instead of white/blue. you can see pics on carsales.com.

Update!

As mentioned we are on somewhat tight schedule.  Nathan thinks he can get away around mid day from Tullamarine Airport so....

22/2/2014
12:15pm.
Meeting for the Melbourne crew
Cafe 8th. Nerve
103 Gaffney Street
Coburg North 3058
(12 mins from Airport)

1:00pm
Walk from the cafe to the factory (5 mins)
Jump in the car and head straight to Robertd's estate, eta, circa 2:15pm.
Rob will prepare the BBQ for us, thanks Rob!!

The purpose of the initial gathering at the Coburg cafe is to meet with those that cannot make the afternoon soiree at Roberts.  On the off chance that everyone who wishes to meet at the cafe is in fact coming to Roberts in the afternoon , we could skip the cafe meeting and just meet at Robert's directly on the Ballarine Peninsula saving a good 45 minutes, and a trip to Coburg for some of you.  I'll need your input on this so perhaps we could have a show of hands to see who can make the Coburg stop but not the visit to Robert's?  It's no problem either way.  Nathan needs to be back in Melbourne around dinner time which would mean heading off from Robert's about 6pm.  Well, for me at least, I'm the chauffeur!

Although it would be preferable to meet in the city for those in the Eastern suburbs, we don't have the luxury of heading into town, then out again after the Melbourne meeting because of the schedule.  Just blame Nathan!

Over to you.

I'm happy to go straight to Roberts...  But if I'll miss some of you and the chance to travel in a W116 convoy (or ride) I'll head to Coburg!

PS I'll be W116-less unfortunately!   :(

Carl & Co, see you at Cafe 8th Nerve at 12:15 - how is parking around there at that time? - I haven't been to the factory, so I will need to leave the 'Taxi' in the street.  Sorry, can't do the Bellarine run on Sat coz we are hosting a family event same day.

No problem.  For the Melbournians not coming to Robertd's, would could meet at the cafe earlier?  I could be there from about 11:30am.  Nathan might have to get himself to the cafe then :)   Perhaps it might be best for Nathan to call us when he's done at the airport, as his meeting conclusion time is not fixed and we can take it from there.

There is no problem with parking at the cafe, either out the front or in the side street.

Update, is there anyone that could bring Nathan back to Melbourne from Robert's Saturday afternoon/evening?  I have an engagement in Geelong I'd forgotten about that evening.

It's on Saturday right?

It's in the brain that it's on Sunday for some reason.

I can bring Nathan back - provided I make it of course.

Do we need to bring any edibles, etc?

Definitely Saturday and you don't need to bring any food.

UPDATE!!!!!

Sadly, it looks like Nathan cannot make it tomorrow.  His airport meeting will be going longer than expected.  On the off chance he can leave early, he will call us at mid day.  So, how about we try to get to Robert's a little earlier?

I'll be at the cafe from 11:30am.  I propose we depart at 12:30pm sharp for Roberts as opposed to the original plan of 1:00pm, does that work?

I think it's too late to change the coffee venue, it was decided to be there because of Nathan, (let's just blame him, not the fact it's close to the factory!).  However, if there is a consensus and everyone agrees tonight, we can meet closer to town, over to you, otherwise we keep it at Coburg.

I just spoke to Robertd and he is looking forward to receiving us!

Perhaps we can have a show of hands to give Robert an idea of who's attending?

Coffee meeting in Coburg from 11:30am:

Carl
Koan
Powerglide
John

Robert's lunch:

Carl
Koan
Oversize
John??

Just like to say thanks to Robertd for putting on an excellent afternoon, not to mention his culinary prowess with the BBQ and fresh veggies!  Thanks Rob :)

The sight that greeted us was amusing as we trundled down Rob's driveway, I'll let the pictures do the talking...

I took the W126 down (Sorry) due to the rainy morning start.  We met at the cafe in Melbourne and PG showed up with his lovely 280 SE.  From the cafe, myself, Oversize and Koan headed to Robertd's ranch.  Sadly, Nathan was stuck in his meeting and PG had a prior commitment with a birthday party so it was just the three of us at Rob's.  We missed you John, all OK?

It is amusing to consider there were 10 X 6.9s owned by just three of the attendees.  I think this is cornering the market.  I took a bundle of pics, I'll upload them later.

Happy days.

i want some pics! i arrived in melbourne 630am yesterday, went to bed at airport hotel, then got awoken by a call at 1010am asking where i was for 10am meeting. dang. sprinted downstairs to meeting after 2 minute shower and didn't get off to best start for national meeting with the big guns of my area of work. disappointing!!  sounds like you had a great day, i need to see this arrangement by RD!

Yeah, it was good to catch up.  While the 'Taxi' is advertised on carsales.com, I may yet get to keep it.  Here's some perspective on the jobs yet to be done - none major, all do-able, but there is a lot of 'em:

Supermarket dents pulled
Clean/cut paint
Have another go at removing the rest of the vinyl guard goo (forget what they call it)
Drain and flush cooling system, replace hoses and clamps
Fix stuck heater door flap and recondition heater element at the same time seat, console out!)
Instal period correct Pioneer cassette/AM/FM component system I had it in my '75 Datsun all those years ago, and it is truly a great component system, so I kept it; have new drive belts and all
Fix those leaks in boot wells  - where the hell DO they come from? It may be the rear screen as I once found a little water on the rear floor and NOT in the front
Self-levelling suspension
Reinstate correct ignition coil
Have instruments overhauled (is it that place in Ringwood that does the best job?)
Replace the 'Y' pipe (with many thanks to KOAN!)
There is an idle module or something that also needs to be overhauled/replaced
Central locking (of course)
Clean engine room
Fix trafficator stalk
Fix screen washer (foot button doesn't produce water, but wipers function OK)
Fix oil leaks (har, har: all LOL right now!)
Re-gas aircon
Add iPod interface (there is a nifty bug you can get from JB Hifi for about 80 bucks that does this through an FM frequency)
Remove tow bar and wiring (hate those damn things! - I always camped in a tent, never a van)
Fit vintage mesh headlight protectors I got from Chris - lovely! Might even fit my vintage Lucas 'flamethrower' spots
Instal sheepskins and boot carpet
Fit child seat mount in rear - yes, DB had provision for that way back in 1975; check under the parcel shelf from inside the boot and you will see a knock-out disc the right diameter
Last of all - win Concourse - probably 2014 or 2015!

I have a query that I will copy to the appropriate place - can I retrofit a correct cruise control? - i.e., does the loom support cruise if cruise was not fitted at the factory?  The Taxi is December 1975, a late D-jet (green injectors).

... and here's where you find a pic of the Taxi in Gallery: http://gallery.w116.org/v/show_room/IMG_1047webcopy2.jpg/

Great to see you again, Guys!

Yours in Joyce,

PG

The meeting in Coburg for coffee before departure.  Powerglide in the yellow beast and Koan in the beautiful blue 6.9.  Luckily, Bunnings were having a pot sale, so we all had a chuff before departure!

Never has so much been spoken by so few about not much at all, but it was a bit of fun. Looking forward to the next meet, maybe at Carl's factory?

I'd definitely like to take the opportunity to thank Carl for organizing the event and Rob for being such a gracious host!  It was definitely lots of fun and I'm sure we could've yacked until the early hours if we didn't have other commitments!

Next time lets make it even bigger and hopefully by then I'll be taking my Red Bull as transport!

Great pics, Carl!  Sorry to miss the run - next time, hopefully.  Even Chris or that guy at Anna Bay don't have that many 6.9s in one place: with Oversize, I think the market can be considered cornered. Although, if a d-jet 350 SE manual turns up, I think it might surprise, given the startling performance of my K-jet (Euro) auto - now residing in its new home up on the central coast. 280SE can't compete, but it's still no slouch, and a good one (like mine) is a real joy.  One of the joys is if you fix something, it seems to stay fixed. It's also a lot more agile, due to less weight over the front wheels.  But all this notwithstanding, there is no dispute about the 6.9 being the duck's guts.

Yours in Joyce,

PG.
