Post by: 13B on 26 February 2010, 11:24 PM
Just letting you know the annual concours is on tomorrow at the usual place, flemmington racecourse, and it would be good to catch up with anyone there.

I'll have my MBCV nametag on.

I.

howdy all,
just returned from a cloudy day at the show and shine.  interestingly (to me), it wasnt just mercs but a number of other clubs also displaying. it was a nice turn out of mercs thats for sure.  the thing which distinguished it from smaller shows in perth is the large number of pre 1970s vehicles, especially the number of well restored cars.  met RobD and Foss, and Carl had his exhibition pieces on display. there were quite a few 116s, and ~4-5 6.9s (after rechecking the log, only one i didnt have on record)...anyhow, attached are some pics of the day.
regards
nathan
ps i want to know if i won the furtherest distance travelled!

Nice pics.  I can see myself in a couple of them, as well as my car, so although we didn't catch up, I wasn't far away.

Its good with the other car makes there, but our MB numbers were down a bit on last year.  Bring a chance of rain and a few of the regulars pull out.

Nice to see all the W116s, but none were in the concourse judging.

It was a fun time, managed to get round most of the cars during the day.  I think it must have been a record for W116 attendance which is fab.  I counted 5 x 6.9's at one stage.  Some very strange omissions though.  No W123's or W116's in the concour.  Had I not entered the W126, there would have been only one other as well.  Met a new MBCV member John with a very nice 106,000 km 450 SE (It was the blue/blue one parked in the display area) and good to see RobertD, Paul B (Big450), Ian (13B), Koan and Nathan.  Who was that ummm, person, that was revving the modified W107 race car unceremoniously throughout the day!!??

The car that won best interior was an August 2009 delivery ML.  I think the new cars should get a penalty, or the older ones a bonus, perhaps for every year old?  Just seems silly to give a prize to the car that was effectively new.  The W140 CL600 that won the S-Class category was really lovely and deserved its win.

Anyway, we need a Melbourne get together, long range forecast suggests the coming weekend is ugly, maybe the labour day holiday on the 8th. or even the weekend after, Sunday the 14th?  Of course I'm looking for an excuse to drive the 116....in the dry!

Regards,

Carl.

That's an impressive turn out. I like the fact that you get the impression there is a lot of interest in preserving older models. I just don't get that impression at the events here in Perth, as the numbers of exceptional examples is comparatively small, and events are few and far between it seems.

Nathan, some of these pictures have uploaded incompletely to your ISP, can you check and re-upload those which have the bottoms cut off - i particularly like the one of all the SLs lined up but its missing the bottom 1/4 of the picture.

Cheers,

Ian.

not sure what happened there Ian. the pics are quite large at 4 mb or so. i can email u them tomorrow if u like? cant get broadband at home as they wouldnt give me a LAN line for the 6 months im here so only on dial up and prepaid, painfully slow so not game to email them to you from home! ill try and send them from work tomorrow. i cant even give u the image shack link for them as work has banned this site.

bit odd re the ML interior winning the prize, im with you Carl.  did u see teh carat dutchelet 300ce 124 in the show section. now that was a unique interior and surely nicer! this must be a very very rare RHD car. how did the 380 fare?   the SL bogan behaviour was also noted!

i might be off to tasmania via ferry with the 123 and wife next weekend but the weekend after would be good for me if others are keen for a get together! keep me posted.

regards
nathan

The pictures are all there, thing the problem is that there is over 30Meg of them.

My computer bogs down loading this thread.

Maybe thumbnails next time...

Same was for the cross country thread and I was shaped to 64kbps :-[ I think each image was about 3mb.  Not sure what's doing with imageshack.  It used to work for me ages ago but now I usually resize beforehand.

Anyhow, nice pics.  I was off all weekend but never gave it a thought to make the trek.  Gotta love those w111/12s.  My favourite shaped merc.

A 5 month old car winning best interior ???  That's a bit odd.  Honestly I don't know how new cars can be judged against each other.  Should have to split or leave the cars in age brackets at the very least and not have a best overall.  Plus maybe a 12month or more no contest period for new cars.  Allow time for patina to set in, like marks from keys, shopping trolleys, car parks and spilt coke (either variety)
