BIG 450

Greetings all,

I hope I am posting this in the right section but I thought I would let you know of a little event happening in March. The Mercedes Benz Club of Victoria is holding it's annual Concours d'Elegance on Sunday 2nd March 2008 at Flemington Racecourse. It is held in conjunction with the RACV British and European Car Show which always gives one the possibility of spotting some rather interesting cars from other manufactures.

More details and registration forms can be downloaded from the clubs website at www.mbcv.org.au towards the bottom right of the page.

If this sounds like a plug, I apologies but as a supernumerary officer for the club I have to get the word out and since I look after the S-Class Register this was a great place to start.

If your in Melbourne at the time please drop by and if possible bring your W116 with you as it's always great to see and talk about the cars.

Regards
Paul

Not because of the how-to's, surely. ie RWL tyres and thumping exhausts :D

I'm going to try and get there this year.  Same as last year. Same as usual, I'll be there if I can.  Would be good to get a NSW and ACT contingent to road trip down there.

Just found out I'm working Sat but off on Sunday.  So if you Melb guys can change the date to the 3rd, myself, and no doubt Craigs would be most pleased ;D

In hindsight it was all a bit silly but at the time it affected me so much I walked off dismayed and my impression of the place was rather upsetting, however in the ensuing years I realise the MBCV is OK to just keep doing what its always done the same way for decades.

I took it upon myself to write motorsports articles, so I had a monthly column called "Pack Up Your Burbles".  The interest was there but I had no influence.  Later I was asked to fill the role of S-Class register capt. which had been vacant for more than 12 months and thinking this would allow me to express myself with more clout.  Trouble was that I would only write about W116s, even though the role was meant to cover the 116-126-140-220.  A downward spiral ensued, no one was interested in motorsports, I was only interested in the 116, and my age (or lack of it) was against me.  What I wanted MBCV to be in 1998/9 was what w116.org is in 2007/8

Hey Big450, just checked your profile which states you're 25... so you must've been only a teenager when I trying to strut my stuff at the club?

Anyway, back on topic - if as many of us here at w116.org as possible can go to this event I'd be pleased to meet people and show off my 6.9 with loud-as-all-getout exhaust and RWLs...

I recall 5440, for sale in Sydney in 2005 at one of the high street dealers for $17,990, funny thing was the car has 290k's when I looked at it one week and then after a week it had 209k's

blue mountains on the m100 forum should reveal the history on this car and the various owners.

I stand by my comments made about the above car, I saw it an obvious wind back on the mileage, it was evident of a  smash with poorly repaired and bodged up work to sell the car to some sap, 300k car woth 17 thosand dollars? I laughed at walked off car was more than 10 thosand dollars above value,

Your right 13B, but I didn't join the club until 2002 so I missed out on all your antics. However I do recall comming to visit you in the hope of purchasing the silver 6.9 you had. I dropped by with a previous S-Class register captain from the club. Suffice to say my eyes were bigger than my wallet and I had to pass. Seems like a good decision in hindsight but you can only make the best decisions you can with the information at the time.

Oh well a few years later and I bought one from Rutherglen from a little dealership there and it hasn't skipped a beat yet  ;D

Anyway back to the concours, It's a great event to show off the cars and share the interesting stories so the more the merrier. I will take many photos and post them for everyone here who can't make it so you won't miss out, sorta.

I got to work and realised the 2nd is a Sunday.  :P  I got Sunday off so things are looking up.

Apart from the concourse this should be the first Vic 116 GTG.

BTW, does one have to be in a club to display/park alongside/compete,or do non members have to park outside?  Not to fussed about competing because by the time I get there, the 350 will be covered in bugs and filled with Burger King wrappers ::)  Hardly in concourse shape.
