I'm Coming to Melbourne next year ........I'm thinking we should meet up some time? My dates should be flexible so long as its from Febuary onwards. Anyone got any ideas what we can do?
Meet up and speak shit about cars seems to be the go!
We've had a few low key events at the factory, we can do it again when you've around. Maybe even head for a drive somewhere and go and annoy Robertd :)
I am hoping to move to east in the new year from Perth. So maybe I can shatter the silence. ;)
Sounds like fun! Im up for seeing this factory :) Ahh motec you're defecting from the WA club? Hopefully ill get to see a 6.9 motor or two!
Hey I'm in, just need to nut out day and time.
Rob
All W116s gone now - but I still love 'em! (Taxi has taken up residence in the ACT in another W116 sanctuary, i.e., a good home). Are former W116 owners admitted? - could bring along another auto of interest.
Yep! former w116 owners just as welcome. Its in your blood!!!! Bring your new beast powerglide! Cool Robertd so we got a few already. As soon as im in Melb early Febuary we should start throwing out dates and ideas.
If Koan came, I could get a lift with him, but if the whole shootin' match comes with me, I'll have to travel C-class - or - come in the secret weapon (not so exotic as Carl888's, but). And I haven't seen Robert's W116 retirement village yet. :-)
Wifey's BRAND NEW Golf (2900km) got rear-ended by a skip truck just before Christmas :-( and it's off the road until the beaters are back, so she's starting to show symptoms of cabin fever. Could have been worse. The truck actually had as big a dent as the Golf. I'm sad too coz the Golf is Gen7 and is actually up there with my C-class in build quality and cabin space, all at less than half the price. The difference is in aspects like road comportment and dynamics. More luggage space in the C-class, of course. The Golf is better than the itsy-bitsy teeny-weeny A-class, and more fun than the geeky, goofy B-class. (I'm not a true believer who thinks that everything DB does is magic. And although they do drive well, ALL my mates who belong the the Bavarian religion have mega bucks ripped off trying to keep their status symbols on the road - and they keep buying them - except for one guy who has gone Porsche).
PG.
I'm ready and willing so lets set a date at a location more central than previous GTGs. Williamstown is great and South Melbourne is another possibility
oversize I've not seen Williamstown but heard about it so totally up for that! either way I'm cool with the majoritys decisions. how's Sat 28 February sound?
Powerglide I think you're right that VW is now producing medium cars quite close to the Benzes in comfort dynamics and quality. Didn't VW put out a competitor to the s class a decade ago? Not sure what it was called.
So long as your wive wasn't injured that's the main thing, cars can be replaced.
It's gonna be interesting driving in Melbourne for the first time coming from Hobart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday February 28 sounds good in Williamstown or South Melbourne. South Melbourne can get busy on weekends and parking difficult if after about 10am though. We could meet at a mutually agreeable venue and perhaps head off for a drive afterwards? That weekend suggested is a week after the MBCV annual concour and display in Mornington so we can discuss everyone elses shit heaps :)
Assuming I have something that runs, I'll make the effort to come!
You are also welcome most Saturdays at the factory in North Coburg of course.
It's the weekend of the Avalon Airshow and Clipsal V8SCs, but I still should be able to make it. I probably won't go to Clipsal this year since I need to work on the cars and no-one else I know is available.
I wonder if we could combine the catchup with an airshow driveby/cruise? I know a few good vantage points for out-of-venue viewing....
Hey guys another melbournian here! Feb 28 sounds like a stretch for me gotta get a rwc done and she needs a bit of work! look out for my thread in the coming days/weeks!
Must say though Williamstown is good for anything with 2 or 4 wheels! very nice part of town. Enjoy!
Cheers!
Dan
I know we can never suit everyone but
If you keep going for SATURDAY meetings, that counts me out,
Saturday is my main work day!
Cheers
looks like the airfield isn't too far from Williamstown- airshow goes over whole weekend. Looks like a good idea. Dannaz94, Even if your w116 isn't running feel free to bring any other wheels- you just need the w116 bug :) Hmm robertd, Im sure we can work something out- Carl, oversize and Dannaz94 are you free sunday?
still up for coming powerglide?
yeah im free Sunday. Yeah no worries ill bring pictures if i cant bring my 280se :P
Yep I'm free Sunday too! Doesn't matter which car you bring; as long as you have the W116 bug! I won't have a 116 ready, so I'll have to get by with my daily after a much-needed wash!!
so hopefully if robertd and carl can are free sun 29feb we can all make it? should be fun.
any idea where this shindig might be gents? may be able to get to join in
Just a thought,
why don't we meet up at the annual RACV British and European concourse being held next Sunday 22Feb at the mornington race course? we could agree to meet at the mercedes judges tent at 11am. Then have time to check out some great specimens while partaking in a hot dog and coke.
What do you say.
that sounds like an excellent idea rob id be in for that and think i will go regardless. hit me with a pm and would be glad to meet up.
Not exactly around the corner from me and looks like I'm out on the 29th as well! I might have to postpone and catch up next time
Done see you there!
This year there is no 29th. Feb, that Sunday will be 1st. March. At this stage I can't make that Sunday.
Three days to go, what are we doing?
I vote for a morning/afternoon at Willy
I'll talk to you 'power glide' when we know...

Heres a few pics of the w116 meetup we had in Williamstown. It was a fun day, good conversations about cars and other stuff. The coffee was great.Went for a ride in Koans 6.9. Yes its much quieter running than the m110 tractor noise machine! Thanks for showing me how to adjust the steering box!
Looking good Koan,
I like to see the skirts up on the 116's
hopefully I will be free for the next upcoming Vic meet.
Cheers
Rob
Looks like a fun day, sorry I was unable to attend. Next time, CJ
