Title: German Car day 2012, maybe Northam????
Post by: goldacre on 12 August 2012, 11:15 PM
Hi folks, well its that time again although later in the year, 23 September 2012 to bring into Spring climes. Unfortunately both Porsche and Mercedes clubs refer to a 'secret location' for some curious reason, maybe WGB can get us in the know! Will email the bloke at MBCWA and see if the location can be confirmed.

If we can confirm location (previously Bernard park) would be a great opportunity to get a posse together for a show of shiny German steel :)

PS The Northam Shire event calendar does not list this event so good indication of new venue.

Hey Nathan, have fun on the Europe trip, or is it work? with the Euro and GBP rates its a great value for money endeavor presently  :D

Emailed their bloke Paul at MBCWA and he told me that they specifically want people to join the convoy from Perth where only there will you get told the 'secret destination' so maybe a W116 WA branch social meet along the coast could be in order?

Will see how the feedback works out but the MBCWA bloke did say not enough seen of the W116 model and was quite keen i make an appearance with the 450 SEL so may make the effort to attend this event  8)

This is the info from the MBCWA site, hope they don't mind  :-*

QuoteThe 2012 German Car Day is on this day, taking it out of the traditional middle of winter date for the first year. The Mercedes-Benz Car Club has hosted this event for over a decade. It has seen strong turnouts of Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW, Audi and Volkswagen cars, as well as examples of Borgward, NSU, Opel and even Messerschmitt – and German made models such as the Ford Focus XR5. The event has previously been held in York and Northam, but starting this year we're making it a moving feast, with a different destination each year.

The event begins with meeting at the car park corner of Plain Street and Nelson Crescent in Perth, near the WACA at 9.30am, and from there a drive will set off to our secret destination. The convoy should reach the destination in about an hour and a half. There, cars will be parked by marque and on public display. There are plenty of places to eat nearby, or you're welcome to bring a picnic lunch. And no, the destination will not be divulged until the day...

The cost is just $10 per car - regardless of how many people are on board - which includes a raffle ticket with some excellent prizes. Part proceeds will go to CanTeen.

You don't have to be a club member to participate. And you don't need a show-car, all German cars are welcome. Spread the word – the more the merrier...

When: Sunday, September 23
Where: Car park corner of Plain Street and Nelson Crescent in Perth, near the WACA - drive to secret destination

That's an interesting turn of events indeed. I like the secret destination concept.

Nathan, I'd laugh if the secret location was Hyden, that's coastal enough isn't it? ;D Actually I'd love a drive out that way in the 6.9.

I'll most likely attend.

Hi tj, actually wave rocks formation was the result of being a coastline twice in its very long history! They recon it's a 1.5 hour drive x Perth so looking at a radius of between 80 to 100klm and best done with plenty of open road so my $0.01c wager (hey, there's a recession on!) is Mandurah, yanchep national park or York. If the Porsche club join in I hope they notified the rozzers as there will be a heap of cars on the road.

Tj, I have made the decision. Those two spheres i purchased incorrectly, red dots from memory for a 6.9 are yours, sick of looking at them! :D

Excellent idea!

Discourages the "Trailer Queens" and flies the flag with a public showing of awesomeness!

I have been to more car shows over the years than I care to remember and 5 years ago I just quit because it was the same stuff over and over.

This way Perth Gets a royal rolling treat of German Steel and engineering.

Kudos to the club

Very long history indeed, seeing as it's part of what's practically the oldest landscape in the World.

Yes 80- 100km isn't far, but hopefully there's interesting roads along the way.

G, those spheres could come in very handy for the 560. :)

Hi tony66, so far our w116 get to tethers have been refreshingly grand and this convoy gig on offer will have the bar raised with our presentation of W116s, some sweet exames this side of the stump :)

Tj, I have been absent too long, you have a 560!? Awesome! How often do you look at that tidy engine bay and think ummmmmm maybe my W116 powerplant nest can look like that! Will need to sus out the forum and see what you have. There are 2 old blokes who have excellent examples of 560s and hopefully they will be there.

Lucky for me my 450 will fresh from use at a wedding so will be more than presentable :)

Yes the 560 came out of nowhere, I wasn't even thinking about buying one, and placed a blind bid on eBay. The thread revealing all is in Auto Torque and was started by MT.

The engine bays are very neat when in good order, but this one needs some TLC.

Anyhow, I won't be taking that to the GCD... The 6.9 will be the choice I think, it will be the most presentable.

GCD mystery destination makes for a good convoy but unfortunately limits the public turnout.

It also makes it difficult for myself and others who have travel to Perth and then onto the final destination.

I've contacted the MBCCWA and they inform me it vwill be an hour and a half drive. It may well end up being on my doorstep but my money is on Northam again.

Still looking for some cheap air cells for the rear of my 450SEL 4.5 if anyone has any can they let me know.

Regards,

Giles

Hi giles, welcome to the forum  :)

I am looking at a 200 or 300klm drive to get to Perth Sunday morning but can honestly say its worth the drive as these events are few and far between.

OOPs :/
