Yay! Got the starter sorted

Several months ago the 6.9's starter seemed to be dragging and I took it to a sparky. He 'refurbished' the thing and it seemed to be better, but over the last few months the starter has deteriorated. I couldn't work this out as I had had the starter motor re-done, so I thought that there had to be another problem. On the recommendation of S-Class, I even checked the valve timing to check that the timing chain wasn't stretched. Last week was the worst and I finally took it to another sparky, whose now fixed the starter properly - it almost spins the motor of it's engine mountings!
Oh what joy to have the 6.9 starting properly again!!
"You've bought another bloody car?!? We should have you committed!" he shrieked, storming out of the room

Any clue as to what the priginal sparky did wrong ? I have looked at gear reduction starters as a possible replacement - should it ever be needed.

I don't know Craig - maybe he used inferior quality brushes, or didn't replace the brushes at all. The new sparky used genuine Bosch brushes.

I would be interested in any findings with gear reduction starters.

I have converted a couple of older Falcons over with excellent results but that was easy as they just upgraded the starters with normal production over the years and you just need a later model one.
