I have an option to move to Brooklyn for 2 reasons. 1) for work. 2) fulfill my life long dream of living in NYC.

so if i do decide to take the position, i will not be bringing this car with me, it will destroy this old car in nyc traffic and will mostlikely end up just being parked somewhere and get all banged up by careless drivers.

It is still up in the air and would not go into affect until november or december, or i can even push it back till january. i had this option befor and did not take it due to keeping this car.

the choice has been brought to my attention once again, and i am really considering it.

what is the MOST you think i could get for this car.  i know its mine, but it really is a dimond in the rough
:-\

edit: lol im sorry for those of you who dont know, its a 1979 280s euro

Why would you want to part with it?  Even though NYC will beat up ANY car, this could be a great one for the city.

I would change the hood star to the flush type, get a cover, drive it, and continue to maintain it.  Those huge rub strips and euro bumpers [which wrap so much around the body] are [in my opinion] still the best for preventing door dings from the senseless masses....and we all know it's a safe car....

I would sort out the long warm up time issue [must be related to the heated carb in some way] and enjoy it!  Besides, way cheaper insurance with an old car!  That S4 cannot be cheap to insure, esp. in NYC.

that car is in very good condition, 280S's are usually some of the most unloved and neglected w116's out there. Though, ive seen some pretty attrocious 450's aswell ;)

seems too good to sell, and an urgent sale means your going to get next to nothing for it unless you're very, very lucky. Hopefully you do sell it before you start running out of time  :)

Yesmar, is that rear window shade original? That is one great looking car. I would like to talk with you if you do in fact want to sell it. Then you can know it gets a good home with a fellow 116er.

well this is the ting it is nott an ergent sell by anymeans, i have all the time in the world with it i can leave it here in harrisburg well after im gone untill it sells , its not that i need to get rid of it quick with an OBO sale, its just that for this car it would be murder on the breaks and with people cutting you off every chance they get i just would feel so bad for the car putting it through constent stop and go triffic, and its not just stop and go, its WOT to slam on the breaks kind of driving, kinda like a very tight autocross track with tens of thousands of cars on it all at once and randome people just walking out infront of the car, you have cars PAKING in the middle of the road, obstcles, like trucks and buses blocking and cutting off everything. potholes,  just something that i love this car so much i would feel fo bad to see it go through this in a large 30 year old car...

well i drove my car to work tonight and whenever i drive it, its like "theres no way im selling this!"  i dont know.

yes the blinds... as far as i know i am the second owner and i bought it like this he was a very old guy and didnt seem like the type to put cheap aftermarket sutff on it,   but who knows?

Wow yesmar.   8)  Not even going to start guessing a price sorry.  Regardless of the difference between US and other markets for these cars, it's just too hard to pick the price of really good example, especially a 280S that's in this kind of condition.

atleast now i have some great pics.   dont worry guys!  ;)  i wasnt thinking of all my options enough.

MB mike, yes i would deff. sell it to someone like you or on here i dont want some dumb kid to get there hands on this

THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE, you guys will not get rid of me this easy

Glad you changed your mind - you realise you'd NEVER be able to get another 280S in that condition, ever again. ;)

You made the right choice  8)

That is an amazing car. It is too bad the 300SDs did not come in Euro models like that. I am making mine into a near Euro-spec car, though (I am keeping the federal bumpers because I like them).

You made the right decision Yesmar. Although I'd love to have all the 116s in the States to myself, I'd much rather have people around to share the experience with. Couldn't make the Jamboree but I'm just in Syracuse, NY so let's get the Euro kids together for a playdate. No excuses.

Damn good call.  Keep it. At the least, our old cars are the best form of true recycling.  At the best, they are awesome, and in many ways, far better than a new car.  Their thirsty nature is still far less total energy that what is used to produce and drive a new car.

I also have factory rear sun shades on my car - a euro 450se 1976.  Quite neat. I don't pull them up anymore because they are vinyl and the vinyl is getting brittle...afraid they will crack or split.
