What DON'T you like about your W116 ?

Inside seat back recliners and the brakes without ABS.

The brakes are too fierce in the mandatory EKS - emergency kangaroo stop - which occurs to me on a weekly basis.

The standard pads were manufactured soft so that the car could be stopped with a failed booster but in a lowish speed (60K) emergency stop they just lock up the front wheels and slide down the road.

It's the one thing that a modern M-B with ABS and BAS has all over a 116.

....I just remembered as well, being over 6 feet tall, having to peer down under or around the steering wheel to check the fuel gauge, something I have to do in all benzes though.

yeah, good point Des, damn steering wheel always hides at least one guage!

don't blame the 116 if you cant see some guages - the fault lies with the shape of your body, not the design of the car

quite surprised people have trouble reading w116 gauges. If the steering wheel is original (and seat at correct height) there should be no trouble, I am also over 6 ft but no troubles seeing gauges or finding a good sitting position or getting in and out. (The R107 is another story, since the recaro seats are low, and it takes more effort to climb out of there.)
Being the only one who drives the car, there is no need to touch seat adjustments.

The car is perfect.

Almost, in my case I can't see the warning lights and I'm 6'00", I think the front seats need some new pads.

maybe our seats are in different positions, but at 6'3 or so - i can easily seethe fuel gauge, so much so, it depresses me!

OK boys - enough of this nonsence. So it is agreed that despite their faults, we all love our 116's. Three cheers for the 116.

Hi Martin, the guy that remoulds my dashtops has an old instrument cluster and side vents of mine that he utilizes when forming the new material. He says that way everything will fit back in properly ! Thus, in your case, the remoulder had to do the job 'by eye' ?

I'm sorry 'remoulder', what do you mean? There's nothing remoulded (non-factory) about my dashboard. I think this slight difference is due to sunlight and age. I think I may have not made myself very clear.

The 280S I had was an early car with an uncarpetted plastic knee bolster.  It had no screws - just the three clips styria talks of. 

My car is as above that's why it doesn't have the screw. I prefer the carpetted panels to the plastics ones but, no changing them just in case the originality police catch me!

the passenger side rear view mirror is the crappest mirror in history...you cant see anything out of it.  enough 116 bashing for eternity

Wow Nathan, how could I forget about the shitty mirror i think it's because I'm used to not using it! The mirrors on my W108 are amazing in comparison, even though they're smaller!
