W116 as a workhorse

I am starting a thread related to W116 as a workhorse. Unfortunately there was no factory estate/stationwagon variant but this does not prevent us from using our beloved W116s in all sorts of practical ways.

For instance, today I was building a new patio and used my 6.9 to deliver some 350 Kg of concrete paving tiles and cobbles. With around 405 lb/ft of torque I barely noticed the performance impact.

What is your story?

nathan

i only have sad stories.
when dad had goldie (now silver) repainted a few years ago. he wisely decided to use the newly restored car to transport a limestone letterbox in the boot one week after reassembly. he failed to consider this in his driving and was surprised to find a dent in the rear quarter panel when he got home. back to the painters, entire quarter repainted.
not happy!

I've shipped half a W116 in spares in another W116's boot some 2000km across Europe. Does that count? :)

The W116 chassis doesn't really suit towing, but a roof rack is fine!
