The Real Thing - Vintage 1974 - 1975 USA Print Ads

I've been digging around for old Ford ads for another post and discovered some hilarious comparison ads (see bottom of this post).  I also ran across the real thing:

I'm not saying that Ford was trying to copy Mercedes or anything, but look at this two cars.  If I recall correctly, Mercedes actually sued Ford over the hubcap design and the use of "self cleaning" slotted taillights that were essentially identical to the Mercedes.  What do you think, were they deliberately copying?

Here are the ads I dug up from that era... nothing at all offensive about these comparisons:

Oh yeah.  Those Granada's really make the pulse quicken, yes?

John,
I second Big Richard's motion.  Does that give us enough for to constitute a quorum for the "Show-us-the-450 Sel-Ad" Club?

Btw, I have a copy of the Road & Track Owner Survey of the MBz 450 series that I haven't posted yet primarily due to my computer dunderheadedness.  It is an informative owner evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the 72-76 450 SE, SEL, SL, and SLC.  What do you say, John - big boy - you show us yours (and explain to me how you posted it) and I'll show you mine.  450SE might want to post both on the site.

Anonymous quote discovered floating somewhere around the world wide web: "The only two things in this world I really like are John Hubertz and that movie 'Brokeback Mountain.'"

do you have these adds in high rez, it would be nice to be able to read the "how to tell a 450"

I wish I had that ad to scan - it is actually a lift from a company called bambootrading.com that sells vintage ads to restaurants etc for "ambiance".  I'm planning to hit the library and FIND THAT AD - then check it out and have it professionally scanned and reproduced for my wall.  I won't pay $25 USD for it - so please be patient.  I'm taking some time off in April and plan to do it then.  Big Max and I will have a whole week together  :)

In fact, I'm thinking of going through all the old magazines that Mercedes used to advertise in - Time/Life/Esquire etc and pull print ads for reproduction - might be nice eBay items for my parts store.

John,
Well, I guess I'll just have to toss and turn until April, then.  I would be less than eager to pay 25 bucks for an ad myself.
I scanned in my 450 Owner Survey that I was talking about last night, but don't know how to post it.  I tried the "Insert Image" button between the subject heading and the smiley faces, but all it did was insert a line of text gibberish.  If anyone cares to give me a "Posting Images for Dummies" lesson, I'll be glad to let y'all have it.  I photocopied it from the August 77 Road & Track magazine.
