Title: The 6.9 experience we dream of
Post by: raueda1 on 11 July 2020, 04:17 PM
My lady friend and I are on a little road trip to Wyoming.  The goal is a friend's cabin at the end of a 10 km gravel road.  The surface is bit rough with a few small potholes and washboard sections, but very, very far from being "off-road," or 4x4 only.  Fine for most cars.

Anyway, as we're turning off the highway onto the road a guy in a Subaru starts waving frantically at us.  We pull alongside and ask him what's up.  He replies, "your car is way too low!  You'll never make it!"

I replied that I knew the road, but asked if there was anything unusual or if it was just gravel and washboard.  "No, just rough," he says.

"No problem!" I said.  "Watch this!" as I pulled the knob.  By now all the kids are hanging out the windows watching.  The car rises and the guys mouth drops open.  The kids start cheering.  And off we go.

It really was no problem at all, just slow. But what a perfect set up!  Makes all the trouble worthwhile.  I have no doubt he'll tell a few pals about the crazy old offroad Benz that goes up and down.  Gotta love it! ;D

Awesome story and it’s great to see a 6.9 being enjoyed. The suspension does work well on rough roads.

How fun! It's nice to see your 6.9 still on the road.

Thanks Scott!  Yeah, it's back and better than ever.  Smoother, stronger and seemingly dialed in.  Lots of fun.  A lot of non-MB civilians have ridden in it lately.  All commented on that crazy smooth 6.9 ride and wondered why new cars are general so stiff and uncomfortable.  I just smile.   ;)
