My 6.9 successfully passed the roadworthiness inspection today. All I need to do now is acquire a set of plates from the licensing centre and I'm set... hopefully this will occur tomorrow.  :)

Quicker than goldy indeed.

I think I'll be paying for 6 months rego, as I usually do. ;)

Yeah would be interesting to know what or if they frowned at anything.  I think torana68 was nearly knocked back because his 4.5L didn't have child seat restraint attachment points on the parcel shelf.  Maybe he had to have one put in.  Not sure if that was ACT or NSW, but that's how some of em were built.   Maybe WA inspectors are more understanding.

Yes, it seems like I just purchased the car yesterday... not. ;D

The inspector commented on the sheer amount of work done on the car. I think he was shocked and felt sorry for me, as I'm now broke because of it. LOL ::)

The inspection covered the main safety aspects of the car, like:

Functional windows, lights, horn, washers, batter hold-down and an underbody inspection. Particular emphasis was placed on steering freeplay.

Fortunately, there is no freeplay in the steering... I made sure of that.  ;)

There were a few things that I was told must be fixed. They were the exhaust leak at RH front manifold joint (The angle of the pipe is wrong), park brake light and non-functioning reversing lights. I deliberately left these things, because I was expecting a list of repairs needed anyway.

To my surprise it passed first go!

I should also point out that the car looks like a 100% original barn find... ie, it looks like it has been sitting in a shed for 20+ years.

When i had my run in with the law in 2005, my 6.9's suspension and steering system overall was utterly attrocious, there was excessive steering play to the point i almost veered into a concrete barrier at high speed. The car was confiscated and driven away by police officers. No comments were made about it other than "shit mate, that car looks like new on the outside, what do you do for a living?"  ::)

Congratulations on your success.

Very well deserved result for a lot of very hard work and pleased to hear of the success.

Thanks Bill,

It shouldn't be long before I can actually drive it properly. That moment has been long awaited.

It took me a while, but it is now registered! 8)

When the weather clears up, I'll take it for a proper test drive. I still have an exhaust leak and a few other minor problems to fix in due course though.

I was lucky, as the weather settled down a bit.
I took it out for a spin along the freeway. Here's a brief snippet of the drive:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rm9xPPItFI

At some point I'll try and get some more footage, when I take it out for a few hours and get it up to 110km/h for a while.

There are only two issues so far, one is the noisy diff and the second is a harsh downshift when coming to a stop. Otherwise I'm quite impressed with how it is running and I think it will get better with a bit of use. I'll also see if I can get a "Carbon Clean" machine hooked up amongst other things.

what?! No italian tune up ?! ;)

oscar

That's the most sedate test drive I've seen ;D

Harsh downshift, I know you'll know where to point the finger but do you reckon it's just vac to the modulator related?
What about the diff, any ideas there?
