Some W116 Pics

Greetings, Chaps!
I thought I had better share these with you.
I took the photos last weekend of an immaculate low mileage 350SEL that belongs to a friend of mine. The S350 is his company car, and the photos were taken at Pretoria Boys' High School:

This is one of only two 350SEL's I'm aware of in South Africa.  The other one was anthracite with velour, LHD, belonged to Lech Janusz in Pinetown.  He sold it to someone up in Gauteng.

My vote goes for the w116, beautiful looking car 

that other thing looks too much like a Toyota, oh i mean "Lexus"

Modern cars really are overstuffed compared to the graceful lines of a w116.

Very nice indeed, I'm hoping my 450 SEL will look something like that when I'm finished!

Definitely the W116 is the better looking car, looks in brilliant condition too!

Beautiful condition.

I notice it has white reflectors on the front under the bumper and red reflectors on the rear fitted to the little flat area each side under the rear bumpers.

Are these original ? - I have never seen them on a 116 before.

You're absolutely right, Major Tom 6.9; that newer MB just looks like a Jap job with a star on the front. I'll take my '78 280SE any day.

Up to some time in the '80's all cars sold new in South Africa were required to be fitted with such reflectors.

Its nice to see the past and present together like that and the 116 wins hands down in the looks department.

Re the later model Benz looking like a Toyota?

Yes it does but considering Toyota's history with Benz design and borrowing stuff I suspect its more a case of the Benz shape being *Cough* imitated.

that's right you certainly see a lot of S class in a  (Toyota) Lexus LS430

On second view, it looks like the S350 is backing down to the 116 in the "grille to grille" picture. Chicken!
