These photos were posted a couple hours ago. The King of Jordan going for a drive.
See, now that's how you make a dictator look lovable. ;D
That is how you properly use diplomatic flag poles!
The year is 2020 and Royals are still being transported in W116s. Wow.
King Abdullah of Jordan (and more so his father before him, King Hussein) have a huge car collection. Rumored to be very impressive stuff. They sometimes cycle some of the vehicles through a classic car museum in Amman. This is one private collection I would die to see!
These are fantastic! I've searched the internet for more photos of King Abdullah in his 6.9 but can't find any. Can you give me any direction?
I wish I could. I was not even aware he had a 6.9 until I found this on a Facebook mercedes w116 group post. He is usually seen in more modern cars.
Are we sure this is a 6.9? It's missing some 6.9 specific things. Maybe it's just a 350/450sel? It really bothers me that there are two sets of fog lamps on the front of it. :/
This Jordanians seem to be very fond of Mercedes vehicles..

Aaron,
Not at all sure its a 6.9. The OP on Facebook was asked and he said it was...thinking he took the photos but who knows.
Yes, I noticed the extra foglights. Out of curiosity, what else is it "missing"?

If my eyes aren't playing tricks on me I don't think I see the lower spoiler that the 6.9 cars had.
Back in 2003 I was a tourist in Aqaba. We were taking one of those personalised glass bottomed boats to look around. All over sudden this large white yacht or gin palace on water comes over close. The men on the bow point the sub-machine guns vaguely in our direction. One hand on the weapon the other gesticulating for us to get out of their way. The suddenly panicked captain of our fair craft does his best to manoeuvre us out of harms way. Who's on board the armed yacht but the same despot that you see in the photo above. Cruising around his inherited dominions with his wife it seemed. I have some photos somewhere of the back of their boat but won't spoil this thread as it's dedicated to what looks like a magnetic blue beauty.

If you like it you can purchase a scale model!
Very nice rumb. Thanks for sharing.
It's official it's a 6.9. At 4:20 during that clip the museum official says the king also drives the "600" (said in Arabic) and the "6.9" ( said in English).
Adamb, "despot"??? Hardly an accurate term to refer to King Abdullah. Far from it.
I think I missed adjustable rear seat buttons. That must have been a must for a King, not?
And as far as Jordan Kings and mercs go, the whole of North Africa, Middle east and Persia is littered with mercs. It is considered a standard to own a Merc if you have any sense, no matter how old or what model.
So, if not a despot, or a dictator, then what, I wonder? And what do we call the so-called democratic-yet-Bilderberg-supplied PM's and Presidents? Macron, Boris and Donald?
I think, in the end, in so many cases, it doesn't even matter. We're just brainwashed into automatically making that call. So often, life proves safer in dictatorships than in shabby democracies. It's a mad world.
The general rule I've always gone by is that if a country does not have a domestic automaker, you can probably assume the heads of state are ridden in a Mercedes-Benz. Obliviously this can backfire if they are brutal dictators.
Also, check this out. LWB W123 ... cabriolet?!

That IS a pretty sweet ride! Never saw one of those before.
Well, since there is a pandemic going on, why not make this a presidential MB thread? 8)
I am not sure I like it so much. Looks like the poor man's (presidents, king, dictator, etc) landaulet.
I bet the W123 Long would have been easier to dig out!
(President Moi of Kenya)
I know he ain't royalty, but to me he will always be the Thin White Duke.
I lived in Jordan in the early 90's when King Hussain was still around. Jordan is a nice country with really good people. As a Mercedes Benz fan, I loved it there. It was classic Mercedes Benz heaven.
I was there as well, when Hassan was still around. Very nice people, and very safe for me and 2 toddlers. I arrived there as the ONLY passenger (with my 2 kids) in an otherwise deserted boeing 747, and walked from the plane straight into the country without any passport checks. Those were the days.
