I've just been thinking to myself....
If the 6.9 is currently the most collectable model and the other lesser examples e.g: 280s base model are pooh-poohed surely there will come a time when the number of surviving 6.9's outweight the inferior stock. Therefore this will cause an inversion of interest and the value of the surviving lesser models will increase and, conversely, the 6.9's should devalue?

Thoughts please.......

I always assumed there would be a knock on effect, e.g 6.9's for telephone number prices...causes 450's to go up..causing 350's to move...making 280's more valuable...Sooner or latter us M110-ers will have our moment in the sun ;D
I can still remember pre 87 when W116's were bringing big numbers on the retail market, one dealer told me that they were one of the few cars that you could buy in the morning and sell in the afternoon and walk home with a huge profit, without lifting a finger or breaking a sweat. The other makes were  Rolls Royce & Bentey.

Guys,
Hang onto your W116's, 'cause their time will come - probably around 2015. When a car reaches the magical 40 year mark, suddenly it starts rising in value. It's happened to Fintails, where good condition models are now going for R75000. W108's, which are now 40 years old, could have been bought for R3000 - R5000 a few years ago, are now starting at R25 000 for 280S/ SE's (and climbing) going up to R250 000+ for 6.3's (and climbing).
My advice: buy as many W116's as you can and stash them. Chances are that you may get a better return on your monet than by putting it in the bank.
"You've bought another bloody car?!? We should have you committed!" he shrieked, storming out of the room

Grant, If I could afford a MONET, I wouldn't give a shit about an old car! But since all I can afford is a classic Benz it's much better than saving MONEY ;)

PS. Just joking, not taking the piss.

If there's ever a world wide trek to find a barn full of W116's, count me in!

No, I wish!!!
I've only got 1x 6.9 and 1x 280SE.

Andreas on the other hand is looking at another 6.9!!
He has 2 on the road and one for spares at the moment.
He's a bloody hog, trying to collect 6.9s. (I'm SO jealous!!)
