My guess is: St Elmo's Fire

After some Googling with search strings like:

"W116 stretched 450sel 450 sel movie olympic"

"mercedes 450 sel limousine movie"

"mercedes limousine olympic usa"

etc etc

then at last:
"450sel stretched movie" came up with something on the fourth hit in Google:

I just watched "St. Elmo's Fire" last night (not sure why...), Emelio Esteves was riding in the back of a black 450SEL limo, also, Demi Moore's character was picked up by her boyfriend driving a (I think) white 280SL. Bad movie, nice cars.
Justin

Now I think the guy in the back looks maybe a bit like Emelio Esteves so that's why this is my guess.
I hope I won something... (:-)

Nice game Oscar!

Damn!   ;D  Congrats arman.

At least you googled and didn't know the answer straight away.  ;D As for me, I remember this chick flick but escaped watching it until Valentine's Day just gone when the wife made me watch it.  I swear she made me. :D

Sorry for no clues pompy.  I knew it would be hard but couldn't think of anything without giving it away.

I wonder where this car is now.  Must have been a very exclusive car back in 84/85.  You only see it once whilst Emilio gets out of the back there and it doesn't get driven in the film.   The producers probably weren't allowed to start it.

Why can't I get this image to show up in this post??!!
When I click on that link, the pic comes up and then there's a link on the right that says "Get Item URLs"  If you click on that there's 4 bits of code.  If I copy the code in the second box labelled "show image directly" and paste it into my post you get the image appearing like it does below. The code will look like this:

[-img]http://gallery.w116.org/dl/21751-1/W116+in+the+movies.bmp[/img-]

except without the  (-) dashes at either end which I just put in so you can see the code.

Anyway, I have no idea where this pic is from......yet. 8)

This movie clip is really nice to take a look at. The picture above is a frozen image from this clip. Now I think this makes things a lot easier but it is a very cool and somewhat exciting intro to see this luxurious W116 driving smoothly down the streets of...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTFH-HnRMEY

Back in these days this vehicle was as exclusive as can be. And now we all still enjoy it because of its robustness, and its supreme engineered and high quality design. I love mine! Can't wait for the spring to get my hands on it again...

If anyone else has some nice W116 movie shots it would be nice to be able to see them on Youtube too.

More, more!!  I want to see what happens next. ;D

That's a great idea for clues, showing a bit of the clip.  Off the top of my head I still have no idea, but because they mention Waikiki I would guess Hawaii Five O.   I know it was a TV show, but it's all I can think of at the moment.

I think the show might be Magnum PI. I'm surprised that the car has white wall tires on it!

Right on brettj! You're the winner!

It is a part of the intro of Magnum PI, season 1 - episode 7 (1981): "Never Again, Never Again".
I think it is especially nice that the w116 is being filmed up close and then that music increasing suspense...
I don't think white walls were common in Europe since the sixties or maybe even the fifties but they have a special look to them. I might do a Photoshop exercise on my black w116 to see how they look. But then I should refit my rear mud flaps too with the white MB star on them...

Oscar, there is not much more in this episode I'm afraid. There's one scene towards the end where you can see a bit of the back, but it isn't even sufficient to tell what modell this is (it is not a 6.9 however, probably a 450 SEL).

That one had good clues though arman.  You could google or imdb.com all the names that appear in the credits and see what turns up.  But I was too late to do it.  Edit, BTW, I reckon it's an SE.  The rear door seems too short to be an SEL.

If noone else has got one, here's another.  A vid clip straight off.  The only photo I have will give it away for sure.  If noone gets this straight away I'll post the clip after the one below which will surely give it away.  Sorry about the poor quality.

Wow Magnum PI! I was right and I didn't Google it either! That show really sucked! I think I watched it maybe twice when it was new on TV.

When I was looking for new tires last year, I too considered putting whitewalls on my 450SE. In looking at the 1975 sales brochure, none of the S class cars were photographed with whitewalls. Since I want to keep the original look of the car , blackwalls were installed. At one time in the mid-1980's my uncle did have a set of whitewalls on this car. One of them was still being used as the spare until I replaced it with a blackwall. Since it is an H rated tire, which are very hard to find in my area, I saved it  for an emergency.

Oscar, you've got me on the clip above. I know one thing, if that little girl was really hit by that W116 she would not  be getting up so fast! Ouch!

oscar

Yeah she's fine.  The young con artist took a dive because it was a merc, assumed the driver was wealthy and thought she could swindle a Vespa out of her to do future paper runs on.  :D

I really like the whitewall look.  Whitewalls and hubcaps  8)

Maybe nobody will get that above clip so here's the extended clip which will give it away.  Brett, I reckon if you're old enough to remember MagnumPI then you should get this one.

It's the TV show "V" (1983). Luckily I live between Australia and the States so I could beat brettj who is probably still sleeping  ;)

I admit I have my image sources on the Internet though. And I did Google again, but textwise it really came up with nothing. I can also say I probably searched for some hours and got a little desperate too :P

But this clip gave it away. Not that I recognised it from the show but I recognised it from a picture I had seen earlier: the UFO in the background!

Now this is a 1973 model w116 since it lacks the 5mph bumpers but has the small extra vertical rubber pieces on its eurobumpers. That's also something I've learned about US models the last few days 8)
