Title: Option Code "992"
Post by: WGB on 14 November 2007, 08:32 AM
Here is the code plate of my 6.9

The options as I read them are all easily explained (Including 223 - Electric rear seat) with the exception of 992.

The library gives 992 as "FOR FURTHER CODED AND NON-CODED SPECIAL VERSIONS, SEE PRODUCTION ORDER I"

I have a copy of the data card and there are 5 further codes on this that are not on the code plate.
601 - Oil for rear axle with LSD
613 - Lamp unit, asymmetric (left hand traffic)
640 - Aluminium wheels
668 - Mode of packing VE 111 with styropor bumper rails
677 - Tropical Battery

I am assuming that the 992 is referring to these options but does anyone else know if I am correct or does the code refer to something else.

The car apparently came to Perth via HongKong and I do not know if it was originally delivered in Honkers or elsewhere.

The code for Hong Kong is 823. Code for the UK is 622. 992 means additional equipment, but this won't be on the plate.

I have a smudgey copy of the data card (as opposed to the plate on the car).

Under the top left heading FAHRZEUGDATEN there are
Chassis No,
3 - Engine Number,
4 - Typ (450SEL 6.9)
and then
5 - Auftrags- 0 8 823 01321 - would I be correct in assuming that the 823 in this number means it was originally delivered in Hong Kong.

Sorry Bill. That means Order Number. If you email the Classic Cnetre, they will be able to give you a better copy of the data card, and at the same time, ask them where it was orginally delivered.

Thanks Guys,

I will send an e-mail to the classic centre and see what transpires.

I don't believe this is the case. I think it is just a coincidence that the number 823 is in that line - unless you can show me an Australian delivered one with 625 in that line.

and I would hazard a guess that Bill's car was in fact a Hong Kong order as indicated by the 823 in front of the other numbers.
