Hi all,

Just this week we have become the proud new owners of a very tidy, mostly original, Australian delivered 1974 280s.
Runs and drives beautifully, a credit to its previous owners, passed inspection with nothing but compliments.
There are few little things that I'd like to attend to, such as vacuum leak in the central locking, broken heater valve, and an exhaust leak,
but overall, a really beautiful car. Some photos attached.

Greetings from Tassie,
Dan & Bron

Hi Dan
Many congratulations!  The car looks nice and tidy, and very well specced too.  I'm sure you will have great fun with this car, as we all do.
Happy 116ing ;)
P.S. Mine's also white (737), but I suspect slightly different to yours though (? 050, 717).

Check those front chrome wheel arches.. None in the rear?  You may wanna check that out.
Besides that, May I advise a clinic in Saigon? They pay top dollar for kidneys and such. ;D

Hi Dan & Bron, welcome and what a fine looking 116.Interesting radio from what I can see. Hope to bring our 116 to Tassie next year as its the best state in Australia for touring these Mercs. Cheers

Yeah, I saw that radio. What is that? Looks era-correct, from a distance.
Could you post some more interior pics as well?
Sure looks like a fine car!

Thanks Guys!

Colour is 717H - Papyrus White. Can see a few touch ups here and there, but not sure it's ever had a full respray.
I purchased a small tin of colour matched paint to respray the lower front stone guard, hopefully over Christmas.

The only rust I can find is passenger door drain hole, and surface rust under battery tray where it's possibly suffered a battery leak in the past. Both very minor.

The radio is interesting. I thought that Becker were the original radios?
This one is a Clarion PE-666B. Apparently world's first auto-reverse car tape deck from about 1971?
That would make it era correct at least? I wondered whether they may have been a dealer option here in Australia?
It works perfectly, but the rear parcel shelf speakers, which appear to be original to the Clarion install, are either shot, or disconnected.
If I can sort them out, I think we'll leave the old-school stereo in place :)
Just need to figure out how to pull the rear seat back for access?

Peter, if you make it down to Tassie, let us know, would be great to see another 116 close up :)

Will post some more pics soon :)

Interior looks nice, seat look hard. You may just have gotten yourself a great deal there. What did you pay for it?
