Title: New to the W116 world...opinion needed...1978 350SE
Post by: mikemerkury on 28 September 2015, 09:17 PM
Hello to all...have been loosing a few nights of sleep tinkering about buying a 1978 350SE euro model for sale in my northern NY state neighborhood. This would be my first Merc. Many past experiences with 70's amercian V8 cars of all sort. The for sale 350se is priced at 8,000$ with 68,000 miles, no rust, almost perfect paint, well kept velour interior and electric sunroof. Engine, transmission and accessories seem to be in perfect running condition.

Questions :

1) Any prebuying pointers ?
2) Is this car reasonably priced ?

Doooooo iiiiiiit ;D
Once you drive a well sorted  W116 you will be wondering why you have not done so sooner!?
Look for documented service history and double check the usual W116 rust spots  (there are quite a few)
Best thing is a long test drive including many highway miles. You need a good "seat of the pants" feeling. It should ride and shift tight and pull freely to the red with no hesitation.
