Hi motec69
Is this the car that has been for sale in the west on and off over the past couple of years.
If so I remember it looked to be in very good condition. A real life Ronin 6.9
Well done.

Nice one!

As I'm sure it's already a registered car, you would've cut out a lot of hard work and $$$$.

im a bit late to this party it seems! i was just going to say congrats on the car, and just enjoy it as it was intended. but too late it seems! i would have thought fix all the simple bits and enjoy it a while before you go crazy on it! the milan brown is a spectacular car colour!

Hi Nathan not really i have learned my leason from my last car. Nothing will be done to this car that cannot be reversed or is not period correct. Issues requiring attension are air conditioning not working, cruise control not working fix those first.  Then attend to paint and seals as the car has almost no rust i intend to fix before it can become a problem.  Velour is in great condition  :)

My 350SE was Milan Brown with cafe au lait velour.  The velour is surprisingly robust, but it can wear where the driver's seat belt rubs the side of the squab door side. This is the stripey bit.   Keep a lookout for another velour car being parted out and grab the whole velour interior, my advice.  MB looks great when polished - like burnished bronze in the sun - especially if you keep those bundt cakes clean and bright.  If dirty, try sponging the velour with just clean, warm water and a piece of old towelling well washed - you dont really need chemicals, but if stains won't move, use a velour FOAM cleaner sparingly (the foam works well on the carpet, too). You'll be surprised how well 2 tons+ of car goes around corners - even braking in the apex - you see, it's the unique suspension that does it. Enjoy!

Hi just an update still waiting on steering wheel to arrive. Dropped of Penta's at Wheel Gleam Osbourne park today outer rims being machined and polished centres being painted in MB404 cost $160 a Rim. Business advised by another forum member who had them do his Penta's. Will add photos when I pick them up. went and saw Darren at Rowe & Sons again today looking at late August for repaint. Geoff  :)

Hi Geoff,
you are going hell for leather! Simon at wheel gleam is a nice guy. dad put a 1 inch scratch on my 15 inch bundt so i took it to him for repair. unfortunately the colour i got back was greyer than silver so i had to use my mint spare alloy on the car and put this one in the boot.
rowe and sons do an excellent job so the car is in good hands. nice milan brown will look the part.
the steering wheel though i have to close my eyes when i look at, being part of the originality police. an unfortunate but of kit.  I recall Bill had his AMG wheel but took it off as it obstructed his instrument cluster view.
I'm sure many would argue with me (i.e. the old US bumper debate!).
will be good to get your aircon going, make sure they don't bugger up any of your trim if they are working under the dash!
regards
nathan

Hi Nathan as i said have put aside the money to do the car up if you want we can have Perth  get together before painting . I know what i want this time and are doing due diligence to make sure it is done dorrect and rite first time. Any mod will be reversible and period correct for the car.  Becker to be upgraded using original  speaker locations and deck. Geoff  :)

Nathan is right about the small rimmed wheel.

I might add the wooden bits on my E500 hundered wheel get very hot when left parked in the west Australian sun so make sure you have a cover.

I love my little AMG leather rimmed wheel it is much more tactile and enables me to get into and out of the car more easily but usually only put it on for show as I can only see the speedo up to 60km/hr  and can't see the tacho at all.

At least the wheel is dead easy to change back and forwards so long as you get the wheels straight ahead the first time.

Ok just an update i have been out to Torque Fabrications with my spare intake. They are making an adaptor to fit a 90 mm ls throttlebody to the factory intake. The intake will be machined out to 90 mm the factory bolt holes are 105 mm apart the adaptor will bolt in the factory bolt holes then have wider spacing holes for the ls throttlebody. This will fix the small throttle size problem with airflow the m100 suffers from. This is being done with regards still using Bosch k jet. Now Mark this will be of interest to you i have asked for 5 adaptors to be made will work out cost then onsell i will not mark up as i just want to help those who have an interest. Also i have scored a win car is booked in for dyno on the 23rd so i will post horsepower off standard euro 6.9 at wheels. The reason is i have convince Gennie Exhaust to make extractors and exhaust for my 6.9 starting on the 26th the car will then be dyno after extractors and exhaust is fitted. They will keep templates if there is interest and i will addvise on cost. Geoff ps can anyone spot the difference with my instruments

Hi Motec

Strange, metric oil pressure, but imperial temperature gauge.

:o

P.S. Perhaps I have misunderstood?  Would that 90mm port not be the constriction in your new air flow scheme?  Do you not need to enlarge it, or is the constriction in the system only the air flow meter itself?  Are you going to do a W126 double snorkel conversion to your air cleaner (does mean you have to move the battery to the boot)?
Title: Re: New 6.9 purchase
Post by: motec6.9 on 09 May 2014, 04:38 AM
Hi Gavin the standard throttle body is 75mm . The opening will be machined out to 90mm so there is no restriction for the 90mm throttle body. That is why adaptor is being made. Yes I will use twin snorkel air cleaner when I find one. After doing Motec 6.9 dyno showed restriction and limiter was throttle body. Hope this helps will post before and after dyno report on extractors and exhaust.Geoff :)

I have a twin snorkel air filter from a 560 but cannot fit it to a RHD as the A-C hoses get in the way.

There will be a posting on this site from days gone by.

If you re-route the A-C hoses you still really need to put the battery in the boot to get the cold air duct down to the headlighty area.

I changed oil and filter today used Penrite HPR10 oil.  And made a rooki mistake bought filter that ryco catalog says is for 6.9 its not had to go and get correct one
Title: Re: New 6.9 purchase
Post by: KenM on 12 May 2014, 02:37 AM
Yup that will be the M117 oil filter, I sent Ryco an email about this mistake in their catalogue about a year ago and they fixed it at the time, has the mistake come back now?

Edit: just answered my own question, they don't show an oil filter for the 6.9, maybe you have an old catalogue Motec?

Hi Mark 100mm will fit if its welded to intake as there is not enough metal left to reliably bolt throttle body to intake. Motec really hard not sure I would go down that path again. Motec $3000+ fuel rails ,tps, injectors Bosch 308 from memory they were from Porsche 944 Turbo , Aeromotive fuel regulator, Timing taken from distributor advance removed just rotor, aircleaner does not fit with fuel rails. Motec could not run standard tacho. As I have said cost over $7000 in parts . If I am to do it again Haltech F10 fuel only computer or my preferred option FAST with custom intake made can be done for less than $4000 with manifold included and is self tunning. Oh and throttle body is 92mm

On Monday car goes to Genie for Extractors Duel 2.5 inch exhaust with x pipe and 92mm throttle body to be fitted. Then back for re run on dyno .

ok this is the power I am after http://www.automobile-catalog.com/make/amg/w-116-amg/w-116-amg/1979.html If not more standard Euro is 286hp AMG was 375hp . If I make 315hp at wheels I have matched AMG output. Then I can say my car has earned its AMG front spoiler and AMG Penta wheels.

The 10W-60 should be fine. The 10W is only relevant for cold starts anyway, and means it will flow more readily. Having said that, I'm running Penrite 20W-60 full synth in mine.

Ok 560 Air Cleaner arrived today . I went over to Genie Started on pipes going to be balanced . The cross-plane crankshaft and resulting firing order on MB V8 engines (well, M116 and M117 at least and I assume M100 has the same firing order) mean that the best pairings are cylinders 1 & 3 and cylinders 2 & 4 on the right bank and cylinders 5 & 6 and cylinders 7 & 8 on the left bank. So we are doing this as it is optimal to making power last set were compromised. To fit drivers side some metal has been removed from the drivers side engine mount. See picture also attached is photo off design I am after fitted to M117 engine.

Run was delayed due to dyno malfunction so it was done on another dyno. So they said they will do throttle body run on same dyno as today to see difference throttle body makes . Then it will go onto original dyno for a total power increase result as different dynos can read differently. todays dyno was old rolling road dyno across the road from Genie at rego pollution clearance workshop. So I will be able to tell you how much throttle body makes then how much overall . Oh and these arrived last week . Just need cams from UK with 278 duration to arrive.  ;D

Hi Tim yes they are for M-100.985 I have bought billet cams from the UK in AMG 278 duration profile from there 375hp 6.9 engine package. These will be fitted to engine with cams will clean up heads while doing this. As for fan on dyno I was standing next to it.  :) Throttle body should be on tomorrow and ready for next dyno run.  ;D

sounds great Motec, and they look the part too.
did i understand right, the dyno run was not done on the same dyne as 'pre op'. this would mean the results mean nothing?
hopefully they could redo the run for you on the original dyno so you know what you got out of the exhaust, otherwise it remains a mystery!
one way or the other, at least the next dyno will tell you what you've got in total, no matter what dyno is used.

Hi Nathan some numpty broke the dyno brake yesterday morning with a 1500hp alco blown small block Monaro burnout car. So yesterday was done on old rolling road dyno which is designed for emissions testing. I decided to remove restriction of air cleaner as all yesterdays test means is base line figure for throttle body test today so I can say throttle body made x amount of power. Then when original dyno is up and running will retest car. With air cleaner on like original test which will be definitive test as same dyno both with air cleaner fitted . That will show how much extractor/exhaust/throttle body makes in total power increase at wheels and corrected at the flywheel. Car is no where near as loud as last car most noise was from being in building.  :)

Hi Motec,

Have just replaced the system on the new Gold 6.9, here are some pics

the old exhaust that was removed was under sized, it was 1 & 3/4 inch suited to a 450 motor. common mistake!

I stuck to original sized pipe of 2" with 2 X 2.5" hot dogs replacing the centre muffler and a straight through 2.5" sports muffler at the rear. and of course chrome twin pipes to finish.

looks very similar to yours!

cheers

the old exhaust is all stainless so I will keep it just in case it might be needed later on another car.

Hi Rob apart from mine being 2.5 inch its the same. Exhaust removed was same size as yours 4.5 litre exhaust but car still made 230.1hp at rear wheels with this exhaust . Once I can get back on original dyno we will see what extractors/2.5 inch duel exhaust/ 92mm throttle body makes to engine output at rear wheels and fly wheel corrected power standard on my 6.9 was 288.9hp . :)

Hi Mark this system is a lot quieter than old cars system . It was very loud not much quieter than open exhaust.  :)

Ok the good news car is running today. The bad news is throttle needs to be adjusted as something is binding as throttle needs hard push of idle. Then revs hard before freeing up to normal movement. It does mean car is un-driveable until this is sorted.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBJmKbeWsMY&feature=youtu.be

Throttle body made 21.7hp at rear wheels on old rolling road dyno. Car will be going onto original dyno Monday and will post overall increase with these mods . Seeing as different dyno used the only valid result is the 21.7hp from throttle body

After inspecting car today found new throttle has slight movement in the throttle shaft side ways. So I am thinking when vacuum is added throttle plate is moving side ways and jamming. So I need to find a way to stop this. Not very happy as its a new throttle body. >:( If that is not possible grinding small amount from throttle plate on both sides near shaft should fix catching . Just need to make sure not to much that I cannot compensate for with adjustment screw.

Ok First good news dyno run as can be seen was done. Bad news throttle issues meant they could not get a proper run in. As throttle is to abrupt in take up so I have been told they will redo when I fix the throttle issues. But you can relax I did get a result not as good as my 278.5hp on rolling road . And not the final reading as issues with throttle meant it was to easy to hit limiter and could not do full load run. But 255.6hp at rear wheels Torque 348.81 foot pounds . Flywheel corrected 320.8hp . So 31.9hp Flywheel and 25.5hp at the wheels but will update as soon as I can when I sort throttle problem.

Just out of interest that makes 235.95 kilowatts at the flywheel or 187.99 kilowatts at the wheels.  And 472.922858543 Nm at the rear wheels.

For everyone's info that's 632Nm (calculated) at the flywheel which is nearly as much as the HSV W427!

Hi AFR was done on all runs it never went over 13.5 stayed mostly mid 12s . I have checked and re checked linkages even adjusted all slack that is not the problem. Throttle has no resistance with engine off it just goes to hell with engine on . Had to adjust idle up to make car driveable . Throttle needs hard push to start moving car then launches with sideways action and wheel spin. Under full throttle once moving its great. Try keeping speed even 100kmh it is on and off the throttle as light throttle causes throttle to close not pleasant. Been thinking its throttle plate jamming with shaft movement even though it was brand new throttle bought from VPW. Throttle pickup was changed from left side to right side with original linkage welded on to shaft removing cable pickup on left side. Been suggested throttle stop may be problem as had to add one on left side. Will investigate after next week as have legal issues to sort over next week taking up my days. Will let you know once fixed will redo dyno run.

Hi Kim once I sort throttle will take bake to dyno as throttle problem means I had wheel spin on dyno and car makes more power than is currently being shown.  :)
