My new (to me) 280se

Hello everyone,

My name is Omead, and I wanted to introduce my (new to me) 1979 Mercedes 280SE and I. I've always wanted a w116 and finally purchased one! It's a bit of a project, but look forward to learning, sharing experiences, and connecting with fellow w116 fans.

As for my car, it's Icon Gold on Moss standard fabric and based on the data card, these are the options:

466: Central locking system

535: Interference suppression without radio set and automatic antenna

590: Green heat-insulating glass all round, heated rear window, laminated safety glass - Germany

812: Rear mounted loudspeaker

870: Electric seat heater for left front seat

410: Electric sliding sunroof

420: automatic transmission, floor shift

It's far from perfect and will need body work (paint, rust issues), suspension work and engine tuning, but will address them in the near future.

Good looking car!  Is the interior velours?  Can you post some interior photos?

No, it's the standard fabric in the Moss green color. It's in pretty good shape for being 45 years old though. The dash has some cracks which I plan on addressing but not for a while. There are a lot more things that need to be addressed first.

wow really nice colour combo really like the interior... never really looked at the data card for my car can you link me the chart where you got the codes/meanings... 870: Electric seat heater for left front seat.... this one i didnt even know was an option for w116...

I always think of these cars as the built to work model even the w126 added motors to seats and stuff like that I find you set and forget those things its just one more thing to fail IMO. love the w116.

Karo fabric.  It's still available for now, you should buy some fabric and save for later. You might note also that the door panels are different than used with other interior materials. Notably used on 280's.

Stunning. I am also new to owning a 1979 280 SE. Would love to chat soon with you and see your experience and list of things to have it running good. Its been sitting for 4 years and currently start barely and stalls after 5 seconds
