My crazy 6.9

I've been over on the M100 site.  Did not know about this site until I was reading a thread on BAT recently.

I bought my extremely modded euro version 6.9 with 62k miles back in 1994.  The prior owner had overpainted pretty much everything except the windshield wipers the whitest paint he could find.  It has Lorinser non functional ground effects, some sort of shorter grill, Recaro like front seats, etc.

I removed those hideous overpainted stainless fender things, the trunk spoiler, and stripped the paint off all the overpainted parts.  I had it cheaply painted this blue color, and practically have not done even driven it since.

I recently had the wheels restored and plan to try to get the car back in shape sometime in the next year or more likely two.

Great project!  A fine choice for the new color, mine is the same.  Would love to see the wild interior before it's gone!

The interior is hard to photograph due to the limo level window tint.  The steering wheel is not original.  There is even a trophy plaque thing below the stereo that said the car was made by AMG for the prior owner.  I kept it and changed it to my name.

The way I wrote my story above I did not mention that all my unmodding was done in the mid 1990s.  I pretty much have just started it every month or two and had some minor maintenance since then.

Very strange seats for a big sedan.

Do you have a set of buttons to control the seats?  I seem to recall these on W126's with AMG kit on.  I profess that I do not know much about all the AMG shenanigans, "pre merger", "post merger" and all that jazz.
There is a ton of BS online from what I have seen and guys pretty much coming to blows over what constitutes a "real" AMG and what does not.  Wasted energy IMHO.

Either way I like those seats!  I must say this is a weak spot of the 116, the seats leave a lot to be desired.  But then again pushing 250 lbs. does not help :o

The wooden box between the seats is neat.

The seats look modern compared to mine. Is that centre console hand made?

Eyeman

The seats do not have any electric controls the only slide forward and backwards and you can change the recline angle with a knob.  The wood area rest is nice, no idea who made it.

I was very glad that no one scuffed up the parts before overpainting.  The first thing I removed was the overpainted rubber side molding.  Obviously painted rubber does not work well.
