Now with Maxxis/Cheng Shin MA-1 215/70/R14 tyres...

W123 rear speakers fitted (same physical size as original W116, but with higher power handling and cloth surround).

Parcel shelf doesn't get any points for originality, but it does the trick.

The new dash is installed with woodwork redone, and the AC is cold with a new compressor and hoses installed.

Windows were tinted just last week. :)

Cheers Motec,

Next on the list is to replace the front lower control arm ball joints and suspension bushes. All the parts are on the way now. 8)

Very nice TJ. Is there a story behind insul8r? What do you think of the tyres you are currently running? A 6.9 with the black centre console I,ve not seen before. looks that road ahead needs to be used!

I think you will find TJ has the lowest Australian delivered Chassis 6.9 in the country as it is a 1976 model and they were testing the vehicle for Australian suitability . Original owner Mb Oz. All Australian delivered 6.9 were high spec with leather and Burl woodgrain. Velour was a special order delivery I know off only 4 so far configured that way. My car is a 77 Euro with velour and Zebrano that was delivered in 77 to W.A 12 months before on sale date in Australia. It only has .8 higher compression but trust me its apparent.

Yes, a concours judge would have a hard time with my car indeed. 8)

I've had those plates for more than 10 years now... I have a collection of insulators (mostly from the old PMG telephone lines before they went underground or were replaced by microwave links etc.).

The tyres aren't bad, but lower profile tyres on the 15" rims I had on there previously do help in the handling department at the expense of ride quality. I haven't had a good chance to thoroughly test them out yet though... maybe after I redo the front suspension. The parts for that arrived today.

It's still unknown whether I have the high or low compression bottom end, although chances are it's low compression USA spec for 1977, to ensure compliance (dated 1-78). The engine number is 100.985 12 001875, and yes it was first registered in the year 1980 with that engine fitted.

The actual build date of the car is some time around July 1976.

Early cars had black centre consoles and the later ones were timber veneer.

All you need now is some chrome wheel nuts!

How complicated/time consuming was the dash pad to change ? I am about to do mine - for two reasons. The first is that it has a crack in it and I have another good one, but secondly, the heater control valve on the right hand side is stuck (no vacuum) so I need to change that anyway, so I might as well do it all at once. I also need to put a new seal on the windscreen, so will probably remove that to also make the job easier.
