Model W116's

This might sound a bit unusual, but has anyone thought about a decent size model of a W116? I know the last bigish size W116 was made in the late 80's by Bburago (was 1:25). Thing is, theres 6.3's, 600's, fintail's, W123's and W114's all in 1:18 scale and none of ours...I know we all have 1:1 models..but sometimes its fun to have a replica of our own car. Anyway, I've got the email address of Auto art and Revell if anyone wants it, to put in a request to get them to build it, I figure the more people request, the more they will decide to build it.

Damn, you used the 1:1 gag already  >:( ;D

Rather than a diecast model, how about Revell or Tamiya producing an injection moulded plastic kit in 1:18 scale.  The kit could easily include LHD and RHD dashboards, euro and US lights, euro and US bumpers, bundts or hubcaps though we might have to settle for an SEL version.  Many airplane kits and car kits have extra pieces included so a replica of a certain version can be made.  Buy a really good quality WW2 Spitfire kit and see how many wings tales and fueselages are included to build one of the 12 or so marks.

This is doable and would be fun if there was enough interest.

Hi guys,

Minichamps has a nice 1:43 scale version out of the 6.9 ,in a couple of colours , even one in funky 673 " Saharagelb " Sahara yellow with all red interior !  ;D See the link - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=320111321004&Category=14736 .

The 1:43 scale is just too small , we should keep our fingers crossed so that they follow the 1:43 up with a nice 1:18 version.  :P

Yeah i've got a few of them, plus a few other 1:43 scale jobbies, and a couple of the bigger ones as well. I just think W116's were the only Mercedes in the 70's to win the Euro COTY, its a bit more significant and worthy. I've come close a few times to getting the AMG 6.8 Minichamps car, but to me if it was a road version I'd be more interested. If they can make one of those, a W116 wouldn't be that hard to do, I guess its all about the numbers they could sell. Many years ago there was a guy that hand built a 6.3 for a customer, based on his car. It was accurate right down to HT leads, the floor mats etc..thing is I dont really want to spend the $3k he did (3k would comfortably buy me another of the real thing).

I always loved my 1/10 scale Tamiya r/c cars when I was younger (and I'd have more now but they're so expensive)...it's too bad they'd never likely offer a radio control W116!

Minichamps make the best W116 model at the moment, it's in 1:43 scale though
