No W116 >:(

I'm not surprised. Most overlook the W116 all of the time, and many aren't even aware of it's existence.

In the UK at least the W116 is pretty well represented. There have been several W116 features in the car press and at shows and MB club events you often see them.
I'm called Dave! I currently own: Mercedes W116 450 SEL 6.9, Mercedes W109 300 SEL 6.3, Mercedes W126 420 SEL, Fiat 130 Berlina, Fiat 131 Supermirafiori, Fiat 131 Panorama, Fiat 132 2000, Fiat Argenta and a Citroen Xantia.

Do you mean MB's own magazine, which the new format looks great, or the commercial one here? Both have had good write ups and buyers guides. The MB one did a chart some time ago of the timeline for the various models and the 116 was on that.

Just looked at the page you mention it shows how the E-class evolved nothing to do with the 116. I would agree with you though that the 116 does not get much of a look in unlike some models - the 123 and the 124 for example.  Never really understood why as I think both are pretty uninteresting even boring.

That's a shame! Could it be a matter of production numbers? The w123 dwarfed the w116 in numbers and with so many similarities they pick the more well known of the two.
There's always a "forgotten car" in every brand in every country. Bmw guys generally agree the e21 is a bit of a forgotten car in Australia.

Yes they made zillions of them. You should see the support the 123 gets here. Any way I still think its a poor man's 116 but we are getting there MB is even restoring and selling them.

Have to agree. My 116 is a better car over my 123 in almost every way. I mean, it should be because it was built and priced to be, but all the little details of the 116 make it such a nicer experience over the 123.

Naturally, the W123 has to be there. I owned a 200D way back in the 80's without any idea what I was buying, except for the merc-star on the bonnet. Rarely ever felt so relaxed and comfortable driving a car (that slow). It is/was a magical machine.
However, if there would have been a 116 available for mortal money for me at the time, I would have gone for it, no doubt.
Spent most of my years to follow dreaming of ever owning one, probably with the memory of the luxury of a 123 in mind, and how awesome the 116 must be, compared.

It doesn't surprise me--just how almost every publication refuses to acknowledge the W110/W111 fintail sedans. If you're lucky, they'll cover the W111 coupe.

on a different note, there is this titbit..
The W116 is the most popular classic in germany, when one counts classic license plates.
