M110 177 PS Motor?

Hello All,
I'm looking for some info on the 177 PS 280 engine that is currently in a 280 SEL from 04/1977. This sounds like the first K-Jet series.. I wanted to know - are they any good? More specifically what about spread of torque, noise level, fuel consumption. How do they compare with the 185 PS engine? I had a M110 with 185 PS in my W123 some years ago and it went like hell (car was lightened and lowered). A neat motor. Now I'm trying to avoid a turkey.. power output is almost irrelevant, more important is the driving quality and consumption.
Any feedback with experience of this engine is greatly appreciated!

I would imagine the power loss would be almost unnoticeable unless you use a stopwatch.

The driveability would be the same as the earlier motor but the K-Jet as well as other changes made to these motors at this time decreased maintenance requirements and increased reliability.

The 177 engine in the 280SE(L) was the M110.985. The main difference between the early and later versions (with 185hp) was an increase in compression; the earlier engines ran at 8.7:1; from April '78 this was raised to 9.0:1.

Torque also improved from 233 to 240Nm.
