It Cost Me $90USD To Fill Up My SD Today And $120USD For An Oil Change!

Today I filled the tank on the SD and it cost $90USD. Biodiesel was $5.699USD per gallon. 15 gallons later... I thought biodiesel was supposed to cost less than diesel. Saving money certainly isn't one of the benefits.

Also, I bought 2.5 gallons of Amsoil because my car takes 8 quarts of oil. After adding the price of a filter, it cost me $120USD (Amsoil raised their prices, too). And that's if I do the labor myself!

I know you have to pay more for things sometimes, but wow... Things sure are going up in price!

Squiggle, the different prices for fuel around the world have been discussed in the Forum before.... I think the UK still wins hands down as the most expensive on the planet, BUT, it is costing me US$182.00 to fill up the 450SEL here in Brazil.... and that's for regular, crappy, bad smelling, inconsistent, 25% ethanol, gasoline....

Sao Paulo where I currently live has been classified as the 10th most expensive city in the world to live in, ahead of Paris, London and NY so I definitely empathize with your comment...

Tks,

Joe

Type17

My current potential fill is a full tank (96 litres) @ €1.50 a litre = €144 (~US$ 208), but UK fuel prices are even higher.

$107AUD for 75 litres today, about $97US and we're complaining.

Filled the 280SE here in Johannesburg - 93.54 litres @ ZAR9.74/litre = ZAR911.10 which is approx US$133.

I recently did an oil change :

7 litres Castrol Magnatec 10W40 semi-synthetic @ ZAR50/litre = ZAR350.
1 Genuine Mercedes oil filter @ ZAR50 = ZAR50

Total oil change cost = ZAR400 which is approx US$58.

Why is it so much??  When I lived in Atlanta and had my 240D, regular diesel was around $1.50 a gallon but biodiesel could be had for about 40 cents a gallon.  I guess somebody just realized, "oh hey, people are actually willing to pay ridiculous prices, haha for them!", as the production cost is not high and is in no way related to petroleum costs.

I just use regular diesel these days - it's down to around $3.90/gallon where I live.  But we're still talking $90 to fill a nearly-empty tank sometimes.  My fuel line was leaking too - MB is supposedly fixing that along with the leaking neutral safety switch on the tranny here any time now (been in the shop with almost no progress for a week now).  I believe MB charges around $120 for an oil change with Mobile 1 synthetic (dunno if they use Delvac or not or what difference it makes).

Where do you buy the Amsoil?  I've only seen it at a truck stop once, but they only had small containers - my landlord has a 5-gallon jug but says he bought it off some guy secondhand and doesn't know where you can buy it.

The place where I buy the biodiesel charges $1.60 more per gallon than their diesel. It's probably because they are a big petroleum company and don't want alternative fuels to catch on. I want to support sustainable fuel and not be polluting the air with carcinogens, but I can't afford it on a lower-class income, and guess I won't be able to afford to be environmentally-friendly. It's never been less than regular diesel here, always at least $1 per gallon more. I don't get it. I'll pay more to help the world if I have to, but I'm not going to get raped doing it.

I get mine from a private online retailer: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/default.aspx?zo=1743459 Amsoil is great oil, but it's getting to the point where it's not affordable and I may choose another oil next time. It's getting past the tipping point.

Wow, it looks like they make an oil rated to only be changed ever 25,000 miles!  (I don't know if I'd trust that...)

Today I went to fuel up and biodiesel was $2 more per gallon than regular diesel, so I said forget it. Associated Petroleum Products has lost my business. I only work part time and I cannot afford to spend nearly $6 per gallon on fuel. One day when there is affordable local biodiesel again, I will purchase it.

Today I checked the biodiesel pumps to see "Biodiesel No Longer Available" and the last price at nearly $6 per gallon! No more biodiesel for me, I guess.

I have a 12 gallon veggie tank in my trunk, so I don't have to fill-up as often. It does cost me about $90-$100 to fill it up on diesel. No biodiesel available where I live. I process all my own veggie oil and it takes me about 2 hrs to do it. So all I really have involved in that aspect of it is my time. It gets the same mileage as when it's on diesel, so that's pretty cool.

We took it to town yesterday, which is 60-ish or so miles from our house, one-way and drove it all around town and back all on veggie oil. It actually runs very well on it. It's a little quieter when it's on veggie than diesel as well. Plus it's cool that it smells like french fries whenever it is on it, lol.

Next summer I am planning on us taking a trip over to the coast from here (Spokane, WA. area) and we'll see what kind of mileage it gets then.

One day I'd like to get a second tank installed, fuel tank and line heaters, and a centrifuge to process veggie oil so I can try doing this myself.  I'm not sure how realistic it is to find all this "free" oil people refer to, though.

I ran high octane in the 450SE when I first got it, but I actually find that it runs BETTER on standard cheaper gas (less random thumping etc. at stop lights)

We have put 75,000 miles on our 126 300sd using wvo mixed with diesel. The only problem is with the filters. I replace them at 3,000 mile interval. It is getting hard to find the oil now as there is a big market for it. I have only put 15 gallons into the 116 as I am working on a battery problem and replaceing the a/c blower.
