Yeah, talk about once were warriors.  I cringe when I see any merc let go (except w123's).
Well both cars have now sold and we've missed our chances.

The 450sel went for $455 AUD.  At least the steering wheel looks in good nick.
The 350sel reached EUR 4.010,00. Beautiful interior but is that haze on the boot, bonnet and roof just frost or is it paint damage?  I see it's a manual transmission, I'd love to try a manual.

Definite paint damage - and figure $2500+ US to paint it - IF you have a friend and a commercial discount.

Then wait 5 years and the rust comes back through.

In my opinion the current "holy grail" is the 1980 black over bamboo car pictured here:

$3200 in Oklahoma - probably take $2500 or so....  104,000 gentle, elderly owner miles.  I've spoken to the current owner (dealer) and the car is about as a nice a rust-free 116 that I've seen in recent years.

Here's another nice car - an expensive 300SD for sale in Florida:

Asking $8K or so....but nice nice NICE

That is actually a pretty decent car. It has the 3.5 litre V8 which is known to be a sweeter engine then the 4.5 v8 (and much more powerful then the US v8).
It's also a 4 speed manual and a long wheelbase car which makes it rarer then a 6.9.

I'm not sure what you guys consider a "nice" 116, but here's a link to mine I purchased last September.....

As for what I paid....they're pretty rare up here.  :(

Nice looking car! Congratulations on your purchase. I won't even bother asking if you're enjoying your purchase as we all know the answer to that! ;D

Interesting your choice of a high-mile veteran - not an unwise decision as I can only imagine your pride in its condition.

The Lincoln I just bought has 100,000 perfectly-maintained miles and although I eye it rather warily because of wear-related reliability concerns, it is rather prideful to see it looking so much cleaner then any other high mileage car I run across.

May I ask what you paid?

Not a problem - I paid $4000 Canadian for it.   I called the guy on the phone about it, and he told me that yes it was still for sale, and that he figured he had put about $20-30,000 into it over the last 6 years he owned it.  He now wanted a truck to haul a camper for he and his wife, as he is semi-retired.

I figured no one in their right mind would spend that much and sell for so little, but when I got there he had two zip-lock freezer bags full of receipts for work done. It had been repainted, and the engine was rebuilt around 210,000 miles (not sure on the reason several owners). Front seats were rebuilt with material flown in from Germany, transmission re-done, etc.

For the amount of work done to it, it was a good deal, even if the A/C and door locks weren't working when I bought it.
