They made factory skid plates for the W116. I have a line on a couple NOS ones.

Got pictures?  I think I need these. ;)

I would like to see pics with mounting locations etc.

I'll get some pics of the skid plate sets when I have a chance. The ones for the 6.9 are marked differently than the rest. In the meantime, here's a factory picture of one.

Never mind; the skid plates are gone already. I really wanted one, too! :'(

As far as I've been able to determine, those sump guards appear to be standard on the South African built 280's and 350's.

I'd sure like to get one. The engine crossmember is pre-drilled for the rear mounting bolts. I'm not sure how they attach up front.

The skid plates would have been a good idea for my Dad's 280SE
Back in the 70's we were driving East of Kalgoorlie (Western Australia in no mans land).
A bit too much speed and a 10ft drainage canal across the road, the 280 bottomed out resulting in zero oil pressure.
Towed by a 'rough' car resulted in broken headlights and lots of stone chips (there was little choice).
The car was fixed but I wonder if it is still alive today (dad bought it new)?

John,

Was that a W108, or 116 280SE?

Either way, there aren't many left, but you never know. 8)
