New to the forum thought I would share a little about myself, I am a Mercedes Technician (12 years), I have 2 450SEL 6.9 cars, I was fortunate enough to buy into a rescue operation of 5 6.9 cars out of a collection of 17 in Rockford IL, at least 10 of the cars were not salvageable unfortunately the rest were rusted beyond repair.   I feel like we rescued the ones in the best shape.  One question I have is was Recaro seats an option on these cars from the factory?  One of the ones I own has Recaro seats front and rear.  I look forward to exploring this forum, learning and sharing knowledge.  Thank you!

I'm not an AMG expert but I would highly doubt the car left the factory like that.

Back in these days AMG was very much an aftermarket tuner, and I have a feeling that if you wanted Recaro seats (and the ones with the integrated speakers in the headrest really were the cat's meow back then!), AMG would have put them in for you. It was very much an a'la carte operation in those days. They had some basic suspension, motor and appearance packages, but pretty much anything could be customized if you were willing to pay. My uncle used to have an AMG W123 300TD back then which he got new, and it also had Recaro seats and as far as I remember an Atiwe steering wheel...

Welcome, Awesome haul!

I have a real-deal AMG 6.9, and it has those same recaros in the front, and the same steering wheel.

Other mods done by AMG on my car include a twin snorkel air intake, and long range (150l) fuel tank

How did  they fit that monster in the boot? Is it using the space between where the tank firewall is normally, and the edge of the parcel shelf?

No, it extends further rearwards, compromising trunk space.  The spare wheel has to partially slip under the rear of the tank, and its only just possible to get the spare wheel in.

Apparently a guy who really liked them lol.   There was a handful of 107's and a couple 126's as well.

Did he have any 109 6.3's?

WOW that's impressive!  Dare I ask what happened to the cars that couldn't be rescued??

Welcome to the forum!  I trust you're aware of the other information resources on the web?

So what's the plan for your 2?  And what's the plan for the other 5?

No I was hoping he did when I heard about the collection going up for sale.  Maybe someday I will find one in one of my adventures.  :)

I know all of them were sold except one of them which is super rusted out and I think it had a raccoon living in the interior.  Yikes

The AMG I cleaned up, caught up on maintenance and did some repairs to it.  I will probably drive it here and there but not sure if I will keep it yet.

The other one I got is the gunmetal one with the BBS wheels, it is not in the picture but the driver door was bent back like from the movie Tommy Boy, and the car is very rusty.  This one I am parting out, I sold the Engine and Transmission already.  I will be stripping it in February sometime, it has a decent set of Euro bumpers and the BBS wheels look like they are in good shape.  The interior on this one is also trashed unfortunately but some things can be salvaged.  Car only reads 85K miles on it.

The white one in the pictures looks good until you put it on a lift (very rusty underneath) and someone blended all the ground effects with bondo or fiberglass to mold it all together (not a good job though).  This one also does not have a good title and I believe the guy who purchased it (who I work with)  Is parting it out as well.

The other black one that is next to the AMG in the pictures is being fully restored by my General Manager (that is the one he bought)

And finally a guy I work with bought one of the silver ones, he is fixing it up, not sure how far he will go with it or what his plans are.

I am not aware of any online information other than just googling stuff about them, I do have access to the old manuals though since I work at a Mercedes dealership.
